Is high-density ram compatible with 780g chipset?

Is the cheaper high density memory compatible with the Asus M3A78-EM motherboard? Chipset is AMD 780G/SB700.

Thanks!

Probably not, if you mean modules built using 4-bit wide DRAM (e.g. 128Mx4 or 256Mx4). ASUS is one manufacturer that often intentionally does not support this type of RAM in the BIOS.

OK -- thanks, tcsenter!

The low price of high density ram is so tempting but I'll order my ram from Newegg which I assume is low density.

do they even make high density ddr2?

I saw them on pricewatch.com. 2 gigs for about 17 bucks.

that doesnt seem all that cheap... i mean theres good brand name stuff on newegg for 4gb for $30 after rebates.

Is there even still an issue with low-density/high-density memory in the DDR2 age?
I've never came across DDR2 that didn't work. Then again, I don't use generic no-name modules.

Now you're tempting me again to buy cheap RAM :)

The reason I'm asking is if you go to pricewatch.com's vendors for the lowest priced DDR2 RAM (1st Choice Memory and PCProgress are examples), they always have a warning message about "high density" modules like the following:

"THESE ARE HIGH DENSITY MODULES, MAKE CERTAIN THAT YOUR MOTHERBOARD CAN USE."

"Low Cost System Builders (VIA & SIS Chipset Based Boards)"

Then alongside the low-priced high-density RAM they would have the high-priced low-density RAM which they guarantee will work with all systems. So I'm not sure if it's just a ploy to purchase the more expensive RAM...

EDIT: I decided to wait until after July 31st to purchase my RAM. Almost all rebates I see on newegg for good quality RAM expire on July 31st. I'm hoping better rebates will come up Aug 1st. During the last round of rebates, for example, I got 4gigs for about $20 AR twice. If not, then I'll get whatever they have.
