I grew up with metal bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Deicide, Death, Black Sabbath, Accept, AC/DC, Rush, Van Halen etc. etc. I still love metal and always will. Do you still appreciate metal or has age changed your music preferences?

NEVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I may be old, but I will NEVER change my music preference.

ROCK ON !!!!

It's dead.

And it's sad because I'm not sure people will ever be as passionate about music ever again. Do you really think that bands like Limp Bizkit, Rob Zombie, Linkin Park, Perfect Circle, etc... could sell out stadiums like the bands that ScrewFace mentioned? Or even sell as many seats as the 80's hair bands could?

Not a chance.

You want metal? Go to the record store and buy "Darkest Hour - Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation" . Now.

Well I'm an axegrinder Piledriver
Mother says that I never never mind her
Got no brains I'm insane
Teacher says that I'm one big pain
I'm like a laser 6-streamin' razor
I got a mouth like an alligator
I want it louder
More power
I'm gonna rock ya till it strikes the hour

CHORUS 1:
Bang your head! Metal Health'll drive you mad
Band your head! Metal Health'll drive you mad

Well I'm remonstrated
Outdated I really want to be over-rated
I'm a finder and I'm a keeper
I'm not a loser and I ain't no weeper
I got the boys to make the noise
Won't ever let up
Hope it annoys you
Join the pack
Fill the crack
Well now you're here
There's no way back

Bang your head! Metal Health'll drive you mad
Bang your head! Metal Health'll drive you mad

Metal Health'll cure your crazy
Metal Health'll cure your mad
Metal Health is what we all need
It's what you have to have

[Solo]

Bang your head
Wake the dead
We're all metal mad
It's all you have
So bang your head
And raise the dead
Oh yeah!
Metal Health
It's not too bad
Bad Bad

CHORUS:
Oh get your straight-jackets on tonight Oh
Bang your head! Metal health'll drive you mad
The bad boys are gonna set you right Rock on Rock on Rock on
Bang your head! Metal health'll drive you mad
Bang your head!

Die With Your Boots On
Adrian Smith, Bruce Dickinson, Steve Harris

Another Prophet of Disaster
Who says the ship is lost,
Another Prophet of Disaster
Leaving you to count the cost.
Taunting us with Visions,
Afflicting us with fear,
Predicting War for millions,
In the hope that one appears.

No point asking when it is,
No point asking who's to go,
No point asking what's the game,
No point asking who's to blame.
'cos if you're gonna die, if you're gonna die,
'cos if you're gonna die, if you're gonna die,

If you're gonna die, die with your boots on.
If you're gonna try, just stick around,
Gonna cry, just move along,
If you're gonna die, you're gonna die.

In 13 the Beast is rising,
The Frenchman did surmise,
Through earthquakes and starvation,
The warlord will arise.
Terror, Death, Destruction,
Pour from the Eastern Sands,
But the truth of all predictions,
Is always in your hands.

If you're gonna die, die with your boots on,
If you're gonna try, just stick around,
Gonna cry, just move along,
If you're gonna die, you're gonna die.

Iron Maiden forever...

Yes, and they do.

I love when older folk complain about the death of music, just like their parents complained the death of music, just like their parents, etc, etc. Music appears to be dying simply because you don't follow it enough to have even the slightest clue. Hair bands and heavy metal in the vain of Van Halen has been dead in the mainstream for almost a decade. Where have you been?

The day I close my mind to new music is the day I officially become a fogey.

You don't consider Metallica heavy metal? Have you not listened to anything of theirs before the Black album?

RIP Pantera :(

They threw in the towel recently, along with Megadeth a few months back.

Opeth, Rapture, Daylight Dies, all great metal bands with new albums recently released.

Metal isn't dead, it's just more underground or something now.

I'm not saying that "music is dead", or that the bands I listed aren't good... I'm not saying those things at all.

I'm saying that people aren't as passionate about music any more. And those bands I listed don't sell out stadiums like bands in the 80's did. I'm talking about tens of thousands of people... Multiple shows at one stadium, all sold out. That just doesn't happen anymore.

i dont think thats true...at least not the first part.

i think metal had its day in the spotlight but there will always be a crowd for it and people will always be producing it. it seems that metal fans like it better out of the mainstream, anyway.

It's true. Sad but true.

Phil & Rex (bassist) went and made another band, while Darryl and Vinny Paul went and made another band. Recent interviews with Phil contained quotes along the lines of "Pantera? That band is dead".

:(

If you like Pantera, the lead singer has another band called Superjoint Ritual. Their latest album is called A Lethal Dose of American Hatred. Really, really heavy stuff, but very good. review
