Is HDLoader for the PS2 a taboo subject?

Just curious if using HD Loader or HD Advance is considered a taboo subject. It's not something that necessarily means piracy, but obviously can be used for such. Is this thing illegal, or just taboo on forums? Is it considered taboo on this one as far as discussion of its use and hacking memory cards?
 
Technically, it would be hard to use it for piracy unless you already had a modded PS2 to play backups. You can't load backups using HD Loader or HD Advance using a non-modded PS2. I guess the only piracy you can do is to "borrow" a friend's game to load it onto the hard drive.
 
I have HD Advance, and I love it. It's nice being able to just take your PS2 to somebody's house and have your entire game collection. I always hated having to bring all the discs.

That, or you can load it onto the hard drive with your computer, or via ethernet.
 
Who says it has to be illegal? I'd love an option where I don't have to keep finding and switching disks for games only to find that they're all scratched up anyway. Now that I have myself one of the slimline PS2's (only had it for a couple months), I need to look in to getting it modded so I don't have to have fifty BILLION disks everywhere and take a half hour to look for a specific game disk.
 
I was just curious about it because the sh|theads over at fatwallet delete any deal or posts that mention it, yet they let deals about buying lockpicking supplies etc go on...

Well modding your PS2 IS against the license agreement, isn't it?
