There may not be as many bears and snakes but there are a heck of a lot of chickens roaming around Kauai. It's like some sort of scientific question to finally answer why the chicken crossed the road. I saw more than a handful crossing the road to steal food from people picnicking when I was last there.

My wife and I joke about it being light crime season when we go to visit her family on Oahu since we don't see any explosions or gun fights on the news.

In all seriousness if you are thinking of Hawaii I'd highly recommend considering another island besides Oahu. Unless you really want to see the Arizona or the Mighty Mo or desperately want to do some shopping. Or consider the north shore, which does have very limited hotel options. Oahu is nice but IME the other islands are nicer for that natural beauty/beach getaway kind of trip.

I've only been to Oahu. OP, if you're wanting to do some hiking, the other islands may be your best bet.

Hawaii is very dangerous, Japan could bomb the islands again any day now and you will get no warning. Best not go.

Haha I was wondering if that was really Detroit or not, it has a Walking Dead feel to it. Detroit actually is quite bad though, but it might be better now since the bailout of GM and Chrysler, or is it? At one point they were practically giving houses away and you could pretty much get shot just walking on the street. Entire blocks are basically owned by gangs.
