OK, so i checked the product code on my processor and realized that i have the B3 stepping. I do not plan on overclocking (running only stock freq and voltages)...is the B3 really as bad as everyone is saying.

I am comming from an AMD 4800+ where the processor is rated for 130W, so my computer has excellent cooling (antec p-180 with Nexus 120 mm fans running at 12V. and quiet like a lamb)...should i be worried and return the processor?

The only time you will see a performance diff, is if you OC. Also, with taking less power, its minor, especially coming from a 4800+.15 watt diff I think, next to nothing. I have 2 OC'ed to 3.2, and they are great. Maybe not as good as the G0, but I have had them for 2 weeks, and will have had them for 2 months before the G0's show up (just a guess)

no - if you dont OC there is zero reason to even care except for a little less power consumption. and many B3's are no slouch anyways but for you, it is of no consequence since you are going to run stock.

i ordered one saturday knowing id most likely get a B3 and i do plan to OC.

it all depends how hardcore of an OC'er you are.

i know with the ram i have now a 3.2ghz OC is about as best as i can do reliably especially after i add another 2x1gb sticks making it 4 sticks all day (the more sticks of ram the harder it is to OC higher from what ive read) so to me, getting 3-3.2ghz OC with my Q6600 is just fine.

after lapping the Q6600, and my heatsink as well, plus some shin-etsu paste - a B3 will be fine on air.

Thanks for the input

idiotekniQues, i cannot help but notice that you have a gigabyte dq6 (by chance would this be the p23-dq6) and a Ninja Rev. B...any issues installing this heatsink on this board (assuming you have the p35 board)

it is a dq6 rev. 2.0 i bought in january.

due to the heatsinks on the dq6 i have it was a pain to seat the heatsink but by no means did you have to mod anything.

i, however, did mod the mounting system using a TT bolt-thru kit and some washers to add more tension to the springs and used a very long and skinny phillips screwdriver, and some steady hands to get it mounted with more tension than the stupid plastic mounting system the ninja came wtih:

i was running a loaned quad on my abit ip35, at 3.4 ghz with 1.45 vcore. 4 sticks of gskill

if you want to clock the quad get p35 chipset for sure. but since your not overclocking, i would just buy a B3 from the least expensive shop. Even at stock these chips are fast if fully loaded
