Is hard drive almost dead?

Recently my hard drive (40gb maxtor 7200) started making noises, kinda like small clicking noises, but it only does it everynow and again. I ran norton system works, scan disk, etc. and all say HD are fine. Is there anything else I can do, or is this even something I have to worry about?

My guess would be yes. Does your system have SMART and is it turned on in the BIOS? SMART should tell you if there's a detectable problem. (I wouldn't say there's isn't a problem if SMART doesn't say there is a problem). Are you sure it's the HD making the noises (and noth something like a cable rubbing against a fan)?
 
Yes it is. My hard drive just started to make that noise and withing a few days it was dead, unfortunatly I didn't back up much so I lost a lot. So back up to make sure
