Thinking about starting a new mmorpg since WoW has proven to be the longest time wasting of anyones career in life.

Guild wars looks to up WoW on every aspect, but I don't know the population of the game. If the community is on par with WoW.

But anyhow, anyone wanna help me out?

P.S., Dungeons and Dragons looks amazing.

Guild wars is def worth it. I played for about a month, and def worth the 50 bucks. very fun and rewarding.

Easy to burn out on like most online RPG's, though the fairly short grind and PvP focused end game make it worth the initial purchase (especially considering there's no monthly fee). Can't compare it to WoW because I never played it. Sort of waiting for the MMO industry to evolve a little before delving back in (or until I have money to throw away every month).

I think Guild wars is WoW for cheapos. People like me who don't want to pay monthly. :)

There are a lot of people playing Guild Wars, lots of trading going on, people joining guilds and fighting in arenas, or people just joining random fights. I've never played WoW so I can't really compare the two.

I played for a month or so. It looses every aspect of interest at a certain point. Like most mmorpgs, you cant understand why you are so addicted. Except that feeling ends after a few weeks, you'll wonder why you even wasted you're time playing it. It just lacks the depth with item making/customizing/character customizing(everyone looks the same) its not a mmorpg thats for sure. IT strongly lacks that exploration feeling like wow had(i only played wow beta) you'll actually feel like its more of an online service like battle.net with warcraft.

They are supposed to come out with a major update today and new areas (dungeons)/quests/monsters/items. I might pick it up again.

no way. it sucks compared to wow. i have about 40 days into wow, played GW and dropped it after only getting to lvl 10 or so. just doesn't have the depth.

WoW is the same though, it lacks depth, there are 3 aspects to it. Mundane quests, rely on people to group with you in order to accomplish higher end feats and the pvp end game or lack there of, where you wait hours on end to get in a battleground instance and as Alliance we are always losing.

I just think its so boring GW has to be more entertaining.

No. Guild Wars is a terrible game. Very monotonous and boring. One of the worst things though is that the world is the exact opposite of persistent. You can do the same mission repeatedly. You can watch Prince Rurik die 10 times, and the game makers didn't find anything wrong with that. Sorry for the spoiler, but you won't be missing much with the shear awfulness of the storyline. It's basically a heavily action biased multiplayer RPG with slightly massive towns.

Edit: The graphics don't measure up to two year old games. Textures especially are terrible.
Your character is basically the same throughout its levels except for a few skills you buy at towns along the way. There are six classes but the fact that everyone is required to take a second class makes everyone more uniform and boring.

you buy the game, you don't pay a monthly fee to play it

it's fun, challenging, and has plenty of room to explore several professions

What's so bad about a monthly fee? It costs $50 to fill up a compact car's gas tank, so I doubt $10 a month is going to make a significant dent in anyone's wallet. I say if you want to waste your life, buy and pay the monthly fee for a real MMORPG with depth, atmosphere, and a persistent world.

$50 to fill up a compact car? I paid $22 like 3 days ago.

Guildwars looks like it has its appeal, but I don't think its the same niche as WoW. I've been thinking of picking it up because I think the duel class system sounds like a refreshing idea and I refuse to pay a month fee. It seems a little simplified for a MMORPG, almost strikes me a cross between a MMORPG and a gauntlet like game.

Exactly I agree, since Blizzard being the most wealthy developer they have the power to make this mmo more mainstream than others. But keep in mind the GW creators are ex-Blizzard employees.

I have enjoyed playing it a lot this past summer. I started a guild with all of my friends back home and we had about 5 or 6 people playing it every other night.

I think every WoW vs GW comparison has WoW on top, but I have found GW to be very fun with friends.
