Is grisoft still the way to go for virus protection?

I use Avast! Home Free edition.

Grisoft's stuff has trouble uninstalling when it breaks, which happens often to me. It will leave registry stuff that keeps trying to run the scanner after it's uninstalled, then it freaks out because components of the program are gone.

I tried Antivir and it annoys me. I get an advertisement from it about every day. It also finds a lot of false positives. It seems to think keygens are viruses?

Ive used AVG Free for a year and a half. Good at catching viruses, but so so at stopping them in progress.

Free is good, but nothing beats regular hard drive backups. I use ghost.

AVG is all I run on a regular basis and have had no problems.

I'll run Stinger occassionally to see if AVG missed anything (hasn't happened yet).

I've used AVG for a long time now. For some reason, on my gaming machine, I'll have random crashes/restarts under certain games. I've since switched to AntiVir which is running fine.
