Is Google Wallet dead?

the FCC needs to crack down on the carriers and put an end to locked cell phones and other idiocies the carriers impose. heck, dissolve the carriers.

Yeah that'll happen... that's why Verizon & AT&T donate to the republicans.

Wallet works with the same hardware as PayPass, Expresspay, and Paywave. It is fairly widely deployed at least in my experience. Every fast food restaurant, the big chain drug stores, supermarkets, etc. I use mine all the time.

They donate to both parties so it's not as though either side is going to make an effort to fix the issue. Google should have told Verizon to piss off. If the carriers want people to use their service they should offer a better service. Imagine if Verizon pulled this crap with music and movies and people had no choice but to use their terrible VCast service.

Get out of here with those pesky little facts.

Yeah, but only us geeks know how to do that, not regular users.

My biggest gripe with Google Wallet is that it only works with Pay Pass(a MasterCard feature?).

I have 1 American Express and 5 Visa Cards. No MasterCard or Discover.
Visa has a higher market share than Mastercard for US transactions.
In Europe, I think it's either the complete opposite or MasterCard has a much higher market share compared to what they have here in the US.
They also need to get the big US banks involved, not just Citi.

I'm not familiar with NFC payments, but just today I was at my local CVS and I did notice the Paypass module on top of the credit card reader. On it was the Master Card logo as well as the Visa.

Anyway, the feature is not something I must have. However, I do plan on getting a Galaxy Nexus and the geek in me would really like to try this out. Verizon should really let the consumer decide how they want to use the product they buy. I don't care if steps on the toes of its own service, see Vcast.

verizon, at&t, and tmo are all in on the competing Isis. Sprint is the only one out, so it makes sense they'd support wallet instead

This is the main reason why.

I've used Google Wallet many times but as others have said, it's not widespread enough but why are people complaining? That's the same with any new technology. It's not like they're charging you any extra to use it. Hell they even give you $10 free when you first sign up for it.
