Golf is nothing more than another form of masochism.

Well, it does involve clubs and whacking balls. Never saw a dominatrix on the 18th hole though.

Hell yeah, it takes a lot of skill, and it's competitive.

so does playing cards.

we need a word (other than "sport") for something that takes a lot of skill & is competitive, but
doesn't involve pushing the human body to extremes of exertion.
Like baseball??

It's more like a fun game than sport. The pros on TV dont even carry their own bags so to argue there is a physical endurance dimension to the game doesn't wash.

Like I said before, go for a six or seven mile walk, wearing long pants in the middle of summer. It is NOT easy.

If you say it's not a sport, then you've never played it. Just because it doesn't require you to be able to dead out sprint or doesn't have team mates doesn't mean it's a sport.

Just because you can get wasted while you play it doesn't mean it's a not sport. 😛

Sometime this summer when I get over to Illinois for a weekend we're gonna have to meet up and play 18 holes 😀

Cool...I know a place where we can golf for free. I suck horribly at golf, but the place I go to has an apple tree on one of the fairways. Best apples ever! 😀

Golf is definitely a sport. Even though it may not be as exerting as, say, tennis or basketball, it still requires good hand-eye coordination and some amount of physical skill.

Hell, it's more tiring than baseball, and I think most people would say that's a sport. 🙂

I've played probably about 10 times. It's really fun, but it takes lots of practice.

Anybody what says it isn't, has never played it. Like vi_edit said, it's not easy walking 18 holes. Carts are too expensive so you get to walk 18 holes in the hot sun. It's much more exerting than it looks. If you have the option of getting a cart though, they're fun (those things can haul ass 😉).

I'll have to try and get out this summer some time. It's a nice way to do Father's Day weekend.

The total number of points required to win a game: One hundred points is game in bridge.

so i guess it is both a sport and a game
