Is going from a 9600 XT to a 6600 GT a worthwhile upgrade?

Specs:

A643000+
1 gig ram
Radeon 9600 XT (AGP)

I need something to hold me by until dx10 (in about 1 year I think) and a 6600 GT looks like the best bang for the money.

Also I only have a monitor which only supports 1280x1024 so I can't game at higher resolutions.

Do you think its worth buying the 6600 GT or should I go for something better?

By the way I live in New Zealand and prices are a LOT different than in the US.

You can find the best prices for each individual card here: http://www.pricespy.co.nz/cat_16.html

Thanks.

Edit: You can also suggest me other vid cards from the website given above.

6600GT would be a big jump, a 6800NU would be better if you can get it for around the same cash.

I went from a 9600SE to a 6600GT. Now that's a big jump. Still, I'd say wait around until a x800pro goes refurb on ATi.

what is the order in the names for nvidia?
I thought adding letters to the end indicated a 6800 was the first, and like 6800 gt was the next....

I have a 9600xt also. I am thinking of returning my 2005FPW and using the cash to either get 2 GB RAM (1 GB x2) and maybe a new AGP card or a new mb + card + ram + CPU.

It would be easier on the wallet to stick with just my current system and adding 3200+ CPU and just card and ram probably.

ATi ships to Canada... ATi is a canadian company. You are screwed, though, since you don't live in Canada... so yeah, 6600GT is fine.

EDIT// What games are you playing?

HL2 (which freezes in 30 min and the sound loops forcing me to restart -_-)
CS:S, Splinter Cell, GTA:SA, bit of F.E.A.R, Guild Wars, Rome: Total War and some other demos like AOE3/Doom 3

Yeah, it's worthwhile, especially if you're getting a good price. As Rollo said, a 6800 non ultra would be better, and as I'm saying now, a 6800GT or X800X would be better still ;) .
