Is Gmail EVER going to get out of beta?

Now I can appreciate that they're thoroughly testing (hey, M$, take notes here!) but it's just a friggin webmail client!

How much longer before they get out of beta?

If they're not going out of Beta, they won't have problems with the authorities regarding the email-content-based-ads.

You think that would be an issue? After all it's an automated system. Not like there's some guy sitting in a room reading all your email and picking ads to display...

The computer has to read your email to display it with the webserver, so all they had to do was slip some code to look for keywords and queue appropriate ads for those words.

You agree to that function when you sign up for Gmail, so I don't see any issues.

Who cares if some guy WAS reading all your email? They'd just have to include something in the user agreement that says that any and all email handled by the gmail system belongs to gmail and that they can do with it whatever they want when they want including reading it. So anyone who agrees to it can't say sh|t about it.

google news and froogle are all beta still. There's still plenty of things wrong with gmail. The entire thing is heavy on javascript. That means cross browser ncompatibilities galore.

This is precisely what I thought the general public would think, but the GP ended up over-reacting to the entire issue. I have 2 gmail accounts, a formal and an informal. I use the informal daily. I love it!

I, being the GMail rebellion that I am, have always thought it would be hilarious if once they went out of beta they deleted everyones accounts and started from invites by scratch again 😀

There would be some problems in the EU IIRC.
