GMail really HAS been down before. I think it was like Google was fixing something and going to GMail gave a Google-placed error message. I can't find any threads on it, though, but I know they exist.

It has been really slow to load for me for the last couple of days and yes there was a time when it was down but I cannot remember the exact time.

Gmail is ALWAYS DOWN for certain areas of the country/world. You'll get a sorry server page.
