Is Gmail a good email address for kids

My daughter wants an email account to chat with a friend overseas, but I want to filter all emails except from one or two people so she never gets any spam or porn. I have never used Gmail but can set up an account as needed.

Just curious if this would work.

hmm, not sure if you can block all except for a couple valid addresses. I've not tried it. You could probably setup a filter to do that. The account is free, so it's worth a shot at least.

I have never received any spam mail on my 3 google accounts for over a year. But more importantly, it's the user's email usage/practice that has much to do w/ receiving spams. Once the email address is in the wild (i.e., using it for registering for a site).....

I want to be able to use the email notifier program so she can see when she gets emails without having her delete or mess up my computer. I guess I will just have to explain that she can only email her contacts.

It's a good free email system but you have to watch where you send mail and it should be fine. I like the amount of space given and the search is very good.
