Is getting enough sleep really good for you...

Hmm... I saw this on CNN just a few minutes ago. Experts are now saying 8-10 hours of sleep will shorten your lifespan. :Q What do you all think?

Getting *enough* sleep is what matters. Less than 6 1/2 hours for most people results in learning problems, besides the issue of physical rest and repair.
Too much sleep OTOH can indicate psych problems.

Hmmm...was this cross-sectional data?

Because people who are making lots of money (e.g. working rockin' jobs that they need to work extra hours at) have better access to good health care..

wow .. good news for me, I'll be starting my part-time job as newspaper carriers .. will be working from 2AM-7Am every morning ..... and attending classes in the afternoon, pretty much 6 hrs of sleep per night.

Ain't that the truth...

Crap! I'm tired of this so-called studies. They always come up with conflicting information!

I just heard a report on my local news a few months ago. They claimed a study showed there was a link between diabetes and sleep deprivation. So they re-emphasised the importance of 8 hrs of sleep daily.

Here are links to articles on that study: "Sleep Deprivation and Diabetes";

"Get Your zzz's To Help Avoid Diabetes";

"Sleep Deprivation";

"Decrease Your Sleep and Increase Your Risk for Diabetes".

Now I'm hearing this crap. :frown:

Crap, I was just going to say I'm tired of these studies. Good thing I refreshed or I'd look like a luvly clone. 😀

Youall get it right. "I'm tired.. as in.. I'm sleepy" HEHEHE!

Everyone is different. What matters is how much time your body actually sleep. You'll have to go into a sleep lab(whatever that was called) and get it tested. Ofcourse the result will be skewed though, because you simply wouldn't sleep the same in hospital lab the way you do laying in your bed with your significant other.

Sheesh. When are people going to learn that they need to do what THEIR body tells them it needs. If you need to sleep 8 hours to feel rested, then sleep eight hours. If you need less, great; more, great. As long as it's what YOU need. I'm so sick of all these studies telling us completely subjective things. Bah. I'll sleep as long as I need to, thank you very much.
