no it's not worth the hassle of carrying it around or even using it. i have a sony clie that i got for graduation and i've only used it a few times during freshman yr

it's easier to just jolt down your assignments in a small planner

ok.. for clarification: i have no cell phone, i am an engineering student, i am going to drexel university (entire campus is wifi).. as far as it goes right now, i don't even use my hw book much in high school (although i'll be considerably more busy at college, i'm sure)

palm tungsten E can be had on the cheap, and it was very nice for me as a student. Some good freeware apps, including a GREAT graphing calculator, are available. You can play music, watch videos, and carry wikipedia around with you, which is very fun imho. Plus if you are tech saavy, you can turn a pda into a voip cell phone.
