Is Generic RAM ok if you arent going to O/C??

Got 3 choices for my system from MWAVE: Generic, Corsair, and Kingston. I get the feeling that people like Crucial the best. But... if you only had the choice of Corsair or Kingston, which would you use? Would you even consider Generic? I may experiment with O/C in the future...

defintely not get Generic.. and out of the other 2.. Corsair for sure!!

Corsair is arguably the best RAM you can buy. Period... Crucial just offers the best value IMHO.

Thanks for the answer... I just posted a response to your comment in the GF4 thread...

So, I assume you're saying that the Corsair can be O/C'ed?

Thanks again...

I agree that with RAM prices so low you should get name brand ram like corsair, crucial, mushkin, etc.

However, when RAM prices weren't so low I bought 512 megs of generic PC-133.

This generic RAM has been totally stable at 154mhz. So some generic ram is definitely overclockable

<< Generic RAM is not worse! I heard people o/c-ed M.tec 6ns and NCP higher than any brand module out there >>

You take a 6ns ram to compare with brand name 7-7.5ns ram in overclocking is not valid, 6ns ram is 166Mhz at default, it's hard for 7ns ram to be overclocked to that level, this is not a fair comparison.

<< its SPD chip o/c-ing isn't blocked like in those "brand" RAMs that want to protect 'emselves against RMAs. >>

This may only apply to brand name computer with bios ram timing disabled, so you must use ram with spd in such system. A good brand name ram has spd with property written data, in my experience, generic ram has spd with improperty written data - lot of errors from spd test program, I've a rubbish mushkin basic pc100 that has lot of errors in spd.

I've gotten two sticks of generic PC133 RAM which lock my PII 400, 440BX system. They are however, working fine in my Celeron 700 i810 system. Hmm..

I would say name brand all the way. I will never buy this cheap crap again.
