Is Gary Oldman the best actor never nominated for an Oscar? He's been in many great movies and has such range and acts so well in every role he gets. From Bram Stoker's Dracula to The Fifth Element to The Contender and Air Force one. Even his roles in Harry Potter and the new Batman movies are very well done. This guy should have won or at least been nominated a long time ago.

Look at his filmography. Most of his big roles were action movies, which the Academy usually snub.

Eh, who needs an oscar nom when you've been nominated for the Blockbuster Entertainment Award as Favorite Supporting Actor in an Action/Adventure for Air Force One (1997)?

Just being in the fifth element automatically disqualifies him from winning anything ever.

The Fifth Element friggin' ROCKS!!!!

"I hate warriors, too narrow-minded. I'll tell you what I do like though: a killer, a dyed-in-the-wool killer. Cold blooded, clean, methodical and thorough. Now a real killer, when he picked up the ZF-1, would've immediately asked about the little red button on the bottom of the gun."

Fifth Element was a snooze fest. He should have at least been nominated for his role in The Professional.

Yes. He is fantastic. Sid & Nancy, Leon, and even The Contender. The Contender was not a terribly exciting or memorable movie, but he was great.

Oldman is a chameleon. He's extremely versatile but doesn't get enough roles to show it. I've been a fan since the 90's.

maybe if he played a lead role for once in his career.

Probably the biggest reason.

People don't go around saying "I just loved Gary Oldman in...".
He's the kind of actor you can appreciate for playing the roles he's taken on quite well, but not a name you remember unless you have seen a lot of his movies and take note of credits.

There are a lot of great actors like this, who you realize are in a lot of the movies you've enjoyed.

That's what I was going to post. He was also good in Romeo is Bleeding. I didn't realize he was the lead until halfway through the movie.
