Is Gamefly a good video game rental service?

Topic. Since i'm a college student i want to save money on games by renting non-major releases but I don't know if Gamefly.com has good service or if i should just stick to my local blockbuster.

from what i've read, it's great if you live near one of their warehouses and blows otherwise, but i have no personal experience.

What if i'm a couple of states away? Like, if I live in Arkansas and their nearest wearhouse is in Texas.

Gamefly has been good to me. I haven't had any problems. I do have a distribution center nearby in Austin, Tx though.

Only thing that I dislike about Gamefly, is that it's difficult to get a new release game if you miss the launch. Most new release games will have "very low" availablity for weeks or months afterwards.

No, they are mediocre. They treat you like King Dick for your trial period, but afterwards, they can take days after receipt of your return to send you a new game. Doesn't matter if your queue has high availability games in it, they still do this. The only reason I'm with them is the permanent 10% off used games and 5 gamer bucks every 3 months, and the lack of other options. They're no Netflix, that's for sure.

I used Game Fly from June until canceling yesterday and for the most part they were fairly good. It could be difficult to get the relatively new games but if you knew how to work the system you could usually get the new releases right way. Netflix is much better in my opinion but GameFly allowed me to play almost every game I wanted to play without having to buy them and the three months only cost me about $70 so I thought it was a good value.

I was a member twice, once when it first started, and again a few months ago, to see if it got any better. Still had the same problem, any game I actually wanted was in long wait, and would end up with like the 16th game in my queue every time. So, no, I don't think they're worth it.

I would personally say yes; I live in NY and my local shipping center is in PA, so I have a turnaround time ~2 days. Sometimes the latest releases are on short wait, but I experience the same issues w/ netflix so I'm used to it. They usually offer free trial periods so look into that to guage the service yourself LW07 🙂
