Is Fuelmax scam?

A friend of mine is thinking about becoming a Fuelmax product dealer. Fuelmax is some sort of a magnet that is attached to a fuel line in a car and is claimed to lower the gas consumption by up to 20% and the air pollution by up to 50%.

As an engineer I cannot believe in this claims (especially after reading their mumbo-jumbo marketing materials), so I'll try to talk this friend out of it. However, I cannot find any good (independent) resources on the net to support my disbelief.

So, any links or personal experiences from fellow AT members would be greatly appreciated.

What's with magnets all of a sudden? Wrist magnets, waist magnets, lower back magnets - all claimed to "cure" a long list of ailments. And now they've adapted the snake oil for your car?

A magnet is suppose to balance the ions or something around you .. I guess...

I heard it works.. if you keep it on your wrist and such..

but not too sure how it would work with gas..

<< By way of its patented Neodymium super conductors it generates the specific resonance frequency that will fracture the hydrocarbon chains in the passing fuel. >>

I don't know jack about chemistry, but is that possible?

<< When fuel molecules get exposure to the specific resonance created by the Neodymium in the FuelMAX, combustion becomes more efficient. >>

The presence of a magnet won't change the amount of fuel entering the cylindar, how can you change the efficiency of the same amount of air/fuel?

<< The result is lower pollutants and piston friction reduction, thereby increasing fuel efficiency >>

Piston friction reduction? How the hell does gas reduce friction on the cylindar walls? Makes no sense to me, I smell a scam.

Garbage.

If something that cheap could do all that, don't you think the auto manufacturers would use them rather than spend millions on exotic new technologies?

it should be easy enough to test, if you record your MPG
then prove to him its BS

if something this simple worked as advertised, every car manufacture would install them on new cars

"Neodymium super conductors" Does it come with a ZPE generator or a gravity blast cannon also?

Neodymium is a great metal to include in any overpriced buzword product such as Monster Cable
