This year we bought a nice turkey fryer and we're gonna try it. Does it taste any different? Better/worse?

Every year i hear about people getting injuries because they put a frozen turkey in the turkey fryer, lol.

If both are cooked right it should be similar... however they are almost never cooked right so a fried one would probably be better unless you start your house on fire.

I've had fried turkey legs at fairs and I love it. I don't generally like turkey, so it must be a good sign.

Good oven cooked turkey is the best. I have had fried turkey, it is good, but I prefer good oven cooked turkey.

cooked in the oven? baked?

do you guys mean roasted? sigh....

anyway: smoked > roasted = fried.

Depends on mood, I guess for which method I prefer, but smoked is always better than every other method always and forever.

Though fried turkey for TG dinner is a major fail in my book (despite how delicious it is.)

Oh excuse us, Betty Crocker. Most of us guys aren't up to speed on all the proper cooking nomenclature.

Fried anything is better. Not so good for the heart tho. Once a year won't kill ya go for it.

their is definetly a difference in taste, mostly in the skin. I prefer baked. The fried is abnormally juicy. Too juicy for my likings.

Fried is tastier, just look around for instructions on how to do it safely. You don't want to be "that guy" on the evening news that burned down his house trying to cook his turkey.

In my family of cooks? Fried hands down. Every turkey I've had out of the oven has been so damn dry that you need to slather it with gravy to make it edible.

Fried most definitely...make sure you don't get one that's too large though or the skin will burn before it's done, usually 14 lbs is the max you want to go, 11-12 lbs is the perfect size.

fried turkey is much more juicy and tender. BUT, if you dont brine it first, wont *taste* any better. the first time we did a turkey in a fryer we just put it in as is, and it was good, but not great. next time we knew better, and it was awesome!!!

it is pretty messy tho, give yourself lots of room.

Are people just voting for baked because they haven't tasted fried turkey? There's no contest.

I've had fried turkey and fried my own after brining and also after injection. I've also helped roast a turkey in the oven.
Last year, I smoked a turkey.

I am pretty well versed on the methods described here.

Smoked >>>>>Roasted in the oven >>Fried

Fried Turkey was just a fad. Its not better than any of the others, in fact, slightly worse than Roasted, it is just much faster. Nothing beats the smell of the house filling up with roasted turkey smell. Smoked turkey tastes the best though.

Make sure it's frozen when you put it in the fryer. Otherwise it doesn't cook right.

My in-laws always cook it in this bag-thing in the oven. Not a fan of that.

I like mine flambe
