Is free air for tires a thing of the past?

I went to my favorite gas station today (the one that had free air and a $0.50 vacuum) and discovered a shiny new air/vaccum combo unit that required $0.50 for air and $0.75 for use of the vacuum. Needless to say, I was bummed out. I vacuumed my car but didn't have enough quarters for the air, so I'll go back tomorrow with another quarter.

Can you still get free air for your tires in your area?

Wow, 50 cent for air is a lot. Even up here, 25 is the most i've seen... and most places are free.
I know for a fact that this gas station was one of the only ones in my city with free air. Now that it's gone, I don't think there's any free air anymore.

i think that as long as you pay for gas, air has to be free.
most gas stations have a switch inside that starts the air up. so just tell the attendant that you want the air turned on, and they should do it for u.

Good point - it seems like high-pressure air is a safety item that should be provided for free...

hahah oh damn. i was drinking pop when ir ead that. had root beer come out my nose =(

there is ONE place in town that has free air. everyone else will charge $.50

though there are 2 gas station mechanics that will fill it if needed. same with water

There is a California law that says all gas stations must provide air and water to paying customers. Even the air pump/water hose machine should have a sticker on it that has the 1-800 number to the local regulatory board for this rule.

Where I live every place tries to charge for air but if you ask the attendant he'll flip a switch that hooks you up for free. I've even had a guy flip me 25c one time when the switch was broken.

What will the cop think when he pulls you over and the air seeping out of your tire smells like sewage?

Just whatever you do, don't light up a match.
