Read the book, you'll understand what it is and what it stands for. It serves a literary purpose and can be meant to represent a lot of things, which is much more interesting than trying to categorize it into entities from horror and associated genres with which it bears resemblance.

It's a work of art. Dr Frankenstein is an artist, not a scientist. Scientists work collaboratively, document everything, have to deal with ethics committees and ensure their work is reproducible. It's artists who obsessively, in isolation, create individual non-reproducable works with little thought for the consequences, while neglecting their families.

The book is a parable for all the trouble artists cause!
