Is Forza 4 worth it without the DLC?

So ive been wanting to play Forza lately, really bad because ive never played one and im getting big into these sort of half-sim, simcade kind of racers. Theres nothing even close to Forza on PC from what I can see. My only console is 360 so that rules out Forza 6. So on a whim I bought Forza 4 on Amazon but now im seeing none of the DLC is available. How much is my experience gonna be hamstrung by that? Are most of the best cars dlc?

it's probably like 5-10 bucks now, so yeah.. definitely is. I liked 3 the best though. It had Fujimi Kaido.. awesome down hill drift track.

Fujimi Kaido is in Forza 4. In fact, losing it in Forza 5 (along with Maple Valley) was one of my biggest complaints.

Forza games are fine without DLC, with the exception of Forza 5, IMO, which just lacked content to a degree that I got bothered by. Forza 4 has something like 400 cars and 25 tracks (with several circuits of each track), so you'll have plenty to do.

Forza 3 was my favorite of them all and yup Fujimi Kaido is my favorite track and so is Ralli di Positano, Forza 4 and 5 are way too DLC heavy, like 60% of cars in the list are DLC but I bought quite a few of them on Forza 4, didn't much on Forza 5 and my problem now with Forza 5 is that some cars I already had were reverted to DLC last time I logged in, I can't drive the cars I already have until I pay again, what's up with that? Been playing Forza 6 anyways.

I've been playing Forza Horizon 2 and I love it - it's supposedly one of the top 10 games on Xbox. I like the open world thing mixed in with traditional Forza physics and races, and there's lots to do, with plenty of cars. I grabbed it from Microsoft's site for $25 on Black Friday. The only negative is some cars are $ purchase-only (ie. many Porsches).

Yeah during Black Friday/Cyber Monday I grabbed Storm Island DLC for $5.

^ just noticed FH2 is still retailing for $50+. Are they nuts? This game is good, but older...

I was thinking about Storm Island, but I really don't like the offroad races.

Yep.. Horizon 2 is definitely a blast. I love the soundtrack from it to. It seemed like it was taken directly out of my personal playlist.

Retail prices are very inconsistent. It's dropped in price at times, it's just random. Forza 6 has already been as low as $35.

I didn't feel that Forza 4 was DLC-heavy. It had a lot of on-disc content, just a lot of DLC as well. I don't even agree with Forza 5, since it was the standard amount of DLC, but with less release content. It was just a disappointingly shallow game.

I honestly don't like the game. I rented it, and then I played the Furious 7 mini release when it was free. Its environment is antiseptically good, to the point of boring, in my opinion. The visuals are great, but not really varied, and the game's racing environment is pretty redundant, but that's my opinion. It's been forever since I found an arcade racer I really liked. I want something like NFS Most Wanted (the original) and Carbon to play. Horizon 2 feels too restrictive for an open-world racer. I want to slide around and be ridiculous. I play Motorsport for when I want something more realistic.

As to the soundtrack, which someone else mentioned, I can't stand it one bit. I'm not a fan of electronic/dance music, and the "rock" offerings are just boring. Honestly, I REALLY need them to get background music into the OS, as well as local music storage. I'm not using that pile of garbage known as Xbox/Groove Music. I wish they'd do like with 360 and Zune, letting me plug my Lumia 950 into the console and play music from it.

Yes. Without a doubt.

I know the OP has already made the purchase, but just in case there are any lurkers wondering the same thing:

I enjoyed Forza 4 easily the most of any racer last gen. Period. It was simply miles more fun than either of the Gran Turismo's, and a far more enjoyable experience overall.

Being able to just start the game up and do a free run time attack with any car, on any track, alone made it superior to GT. I loved taking a handful of cars, and doing a "magazine shootout" style comparison: Taking them all around the same track individually and seeing, stock for stock, how the times and numbers stacked up, and watching the gorgeous replays.
Factor in the wonderful career mode and modifying/painting and if you can't play the latest iterations, I think it would be hard to go wrong with 4.

It's honestly my favorite Forza, and arguably my favorite "sim" racer of all time.
And I own all of them except 5.

So this game is good but i have to say the racing itself is a bit of a joke. I mean for a game that is tryig to have a sim attitude, when you only have 2-3 laps to win a race and starting in position 8 or whatever on the grid, thats not sim at all because real races arent like that, it would be too dangerous forcing ppl to drive like maniacs.
