Is forcing triple buffering with Catalyst a good idea?

I like to use Vsync, i'm pretty satisfied with the performance level of my 6850 with the games I play (fallout 3/new vegas, diablo 3, etc...) at 1080p however I do get a lot of fluctuations sometimes, especially with mods and stuff on Fallout.

Is there any drawback for forcing triple buffering? I understand it helps a lot because you dont get the 60-30fps drop as soon as you hit sub-60fps.

Thanks,

Sometimes games crash. It doesn't work with everything, sometimes it appears to work but then crashes a few hours later. Other times it does just work as expected. If a game supports then by all means turn it on, but you will have to determine if it works with any particular game when forcing it.

That setting only affects OpenGL so it won't do anything for those games. You need another program to enable "triple" buffering in D3D.

Yeah the Catalyst Control Center "Triple Buffering" setting only applies to OpenGL applications. So it would only effect stuff like idTech games, such as Rage or Brink (which probably already have a native triple buffering setting), or older games from before DirectX gained dominance.

D3D override has the ability to force triple buffering. No idea if it will work with batman.

But batman is one of those games that was shown to have stutter caused by the AMD GCN stuttering bug. You may find triple buffering does not solve the issue.

Are you playing in DX11? I believe the DX11 implementation in this game is slightly borked causing low framerates.

@BrightCandle he is using a 6850 which is not a GCN based card so i doubt its microstutter
