Is Flip Chip the same thing as Socket 370?

Well, yes and no.

Yes because the physical socket is the same.

No because some of the pins are assigned differently between them.

They are not compatible.

So what kind of motherboard do you need to use with a Flip Chip. I don't think I've seen Flip Chip motherboards, and which processors are Socket 370?

Most new S370 mobos will work with either. Just make sure the revision you buy says it will support "Coppermine" CPU's or FC-PGA (same thing).

There is PPGA370 which is the old Celeron Socket370.
There is FC-PGA370 which is your "FlipChip" for CeleronIIs and P3s, any new board supports both, but the pinouts are different.

But the term flip chip just means the CPU die is turned over. SocketA CPUs are a "FlipChip" design, and as far as I can tell the Penitum4 is a FlipChip design to.

The hottest part of the chip used to be the bottom on the 370 design(celeron). When they made the P3 into the 370 design they flipped the chip over so the hottest part was on the top this time. Thus Flip-Chip... At least thats what all the reviews said when it was released... :)

Ask "PM" tho, he works for Intel so he may have a clear answer then us...

Ohh, your question: yes and no... Flip-Chip uses the same socket, except the pins are arranged different(as was already answered).
