Is Firefox really "faster"

glen

Lifer
I still don't understand how a browser can relly be "faster" than another browser.
If the computers these days are fast enough that a Quake 3 liek game can be rendered in a java applet, it hardly seems liekly that different browsers are going to be noticebly faster than one anther, especiailly when the limiting factor is the bandwidth.

Cool, so how do I tweek it?
Ultimate Firefox tweaks found here.

What the crap? Actually I think Maximum PC or PC Gamer or some other geek magazine did a review on different web browsers and Opera wasn't too good cuz it didn't have roxor features.

I don't use Firefox for features though, it's safer for my dear comp.

You post in the right forum, for starters.

Well, I am not sure if FF is faster than MSIE, but I know posting in OT is faster than the "correct" forum. 😉

You may want to read a few of the links previously posted in this thread.

(I recall reading the Maximum PC article, and would say it was not their finest work)

You don't need to download anything.
Just type about:config in the adress bar. Then enable pipelining. It is really the only significant speed increase.
network.http.pipelining, true
network.http.proxy.pipe lining, true
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests, 100)

Whoa, Opera is some fast stuff. Actuary do you use it?

Is Opera the Mac OS browser? Cuz if it is I assume it's interface is cleaner (I hate all this firefox crap that I never use and never will use) and it's faster I'll probably get it instead.
