Is firefox killing my net connection???

Hi all...

Has anyone else had this happen:

I use the latest version of Firefox on a clean XP box. But for whatever reason, I had a heck of a time using more than one instance of firefox at the same time. It may work ok for a while....coupld hours or so, but after a while, one will crap out and claim that it can't find the server, which is baloney. If I hit "try Again" it connects, but other times it will not, and not only that all the others will do the same thing if I try and 'reload' a page or navigate to another page.

It's really frustrating. I'm having a hard time figuring this out. My DSL connection is good. I can usually collect email just fine....listen to streaming radio....that kind of thing. The computer is just fine otherwise. I can use any other programs it seems, but the port(s) to the net get hosed.

I have and use several antivirus & spyware programs. I update them every couple days, and every couple weeks or so I boot into safe mode and run them all...do defrags and so on. I actively maintain my computer. I'm the only one that uses it. I have tried stopping my AVG antivirus software to see if it is hogging unusally more resources than normal. I've tried turning off the system Restore on XP....and none of this seems to help.

Is there something about firefox that makes it take a dump if more than one instance is open at a time that I don't know about?? Is there something about the portal(s) to the internet that I should look at? If so, where? I'm outta ideas.

Anyone experience this......or know wtf is going on? It's a wicked pain.

Thanks.....

:disgust:

I have that happen alot(FF 1.5.0.10 & prveious versions), the "can't find the server" thing. I figured it was my crappy connection (dial-up). Maybe i should try surfing with IE & see if it happens with that too.

Sorry i can't be of any help.

No prob Spacehead, at least it's not necessarily as mysterious as it seems. Maybe someone out there will offer up some ideas/suggestins and we can both benefit from it.

I tend to notice that it happens with multiple tabs too... I do find it frustrating, because I have to reload the tabs to make sure it's a dead site, which takes up time.

This has happened a couple of times since i last posted here. I couldn't get the pages to load with IE either. Took several refreshes to get the pages to load in both FF & IE.
