Is FiOS expansion dead?

Been reading that Verizon made some deal with cable companies and stopped expansion of FiOS. I have Comcast and it would be awesome if FiOS came to my area (02135). Comcast has such deceptive advertising - I found a deal for existing customers to upgrade their internet speed. But its for existing comcast customers who dont have internet, bastards. 😡

They stopped rolling out a while ago, even before the deal with cable co's.

But they do have that pending deal to completely stop forever in exchange for the cable co's unused wireless spectrum. It may not get final approval though.

yeah, verizon was very particular about where they built. it's widely available if you move out of town - newton, watertown, needham, dedham, waltham, etc.

where are you? i used to live by cleveland circle, between beacon and comm ave.

I used to live in Woburn and I had FiOS there, I wanted to live in Boston, but with that came no FiOS unfortunately. I live on Comm Ave, between Washington Street and Chestnut Hill Ave

They stopped Fiber installation.

If you are too far away from a land line you have to jump on LTE

From what I read it was mostly the high costs, something like $1300 to connect a home. And also the 18-24 month lead to obtain a negotiated television franchise with every little municipality in a new service area. In areas where the service is mature market penetration is in the 25% neighborhood, which ain't bad, but the costs are really very high. Too bad, too. I like Comcast well enough, but I would have been happy to see some competition here in our part of North Jersey.

Guess that is not so crazy compared to spending 200k on a bush.

I'm lucky enough to have moved last summer into a VZ FiOS that rolls out just about everything here in the northern burbs of Syracuse first. Beyond the fact that I tripled my internet speeds I also doubled the available TV channels and the high def on FiOS is so far beyond the crap Time Warner has but the best part is it's $30 cheaper per month. I know VZ is raising their rates but so isn't TW so it's a wash. It's so nice not having the 7PM slowdown anymore. I absolutely love it.

I had FIOS last year. Got 25Mbit down. I have cable now, its 20Mbit down. I don't feel much of a difference.

The real difference is the upload speed. I had 25Mbit up on FIOS. I only have 5Mbit up on cable, but I don't really use the upload much so it doesn't bother me.

I was about to post about how I'm still capped at 512kb upstream in NYC, but I decided to run a quick test and just noticed they bumped me to 1Mb. 😱

Party like it's 1999 baby!
