Is Final Fantasy 10 good?

I might go rent it and the PS 2 at a local BlockBuster if it is.

Was it better then Final Fantasy 7,8, or 9?

Is the new battle/ability system easy to adapt to, as well as easy to use and fun?

I heard you get a tree of skills and you branch off into different skills and specialize in them, is this correct?

Btw, is this game as long (or longer) then the other FF's?

Thanks guys.

P.S. I'm assuming it's out in rental stores since I hear people saying they're playing it so if it isn't tell me so, thanks. :)

I've never played 8 or 9, so I can't comment on those. Overall I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I think I liked 7 a bit more overall. The main reason I liked 7 more though is because of it's mini-games. I think overall they were better than the mini-games in 10 ( I LOVED breeding and racing Chocobos). I do think 10 is a great game though. As far as how long is it, it took me 54 hours according to the save times. That includes maybe 4-5 hours of just random fights in tough areas to level my characters, and about 2-3 hours of getting a few secret items. If you wanted to get all the secret stuff and ultimate weapons, you could easily spend 70 hours in the game.

Personally, I love the battle system. I think it's the best out of all the Final Fantasys. It's just amusing to have a weak strength player come in and wack off a fiend who's low on HP, and he/she gets as much experience as the characters who did all the work. (Yes, that was a serious statement) The Sphere Grid for the skills is ok. I have yet to see how this necessarily makes things more interesting.

Renting FFX seems just odd. Cuz in theory you'll need to play a fair amt. to get into the game, and in a sense, at that point, you've already put in, perhaps 12 or so hrs. in 5 days, that it almost cheapens buying this game, esp. since you may not play it again after the first time beating it. If you like the FF series, I say just go ahead and buy it.

i liked FF7 better still gameplay wise. That's the only one i've played.. then now FFX (my brother has 9 and played 8... he's more of a FF person than me.. i'm just leechin off his games :p). But the battle system i like too. I don't particularly like the sphere grid.. i've always love the materia :p But this game is graphically amazing...

FF10 is definately my favorite of the series so far. I'm almost done with it and have about 50 hours on it, but I haven't gotten all the legendary weapons and beaten those damn bosses in that monster arena yet. It actually has a decent story (unlike 8 and 9), and I don't really mind all the FMV that everyone always whines about... it just looks sooo good.. and It's also really cool that you can go back and watch all the movies that you have seen and listen to all the music.

Great game. Not the game-to-end-all-games, but a highly worthwhile purchase.

I rented it and only got a few hours into it but the little I played seem like "watch a 5 minute movie...walk 3 steps..keep hitting b button...repeat" It seemed like a could have placed a two year old button masher at the controller and he could have done as well. Does it ever get better than that? I think I was just getting to the part where there was a little more interaction but I could be mistaken.

Probably my favorite FF right now. I finished the game in about 47 hours but I didn't finish all the side quests. Really worth to buy!

Fights toward the middle and end of the game get really hard. It took me a fair bit a strategy with party configurations and figuring out what protections to caste to beat some of the end monsters. Also, there are some hard dungeon areas, specifially the Omega Ruins, which are really hard. Most random monsters in that Dungeon are boss level monsters.

I love FFX...I do agree that FF7 is fun but I don't know if I can compare the two.

FFX is visually stunning plus the new battle system is much butter.

The game starts off slow in the beginning but after thw blitzball tourney it gets much better.

Is it worth buying a PS2 for? (Obviously I'll get a few other games e.g. GT3, MGS2 etc. as well)
I went down to the mall and was seriously thinking about buying one. But then I decided to wait a bit to see how prices go. Games are very expensive here at the moment thanks to our crappy weak dollar.

It is not a bad movie but it would be better without those few minutes of gameplay stuck here and there.

You obviously didn't spend more than a few hours with it. The first 6 hours are limited gameplay to set up the story but after that it really gets into the gameplay. Don't bash a game if you only play it for an hour.

I like FFX. I'm not a huge RPG fan, and I've never finished any other FF game (usually get bored and something else comes along), but I'm working on this one.

The new battle system is good in my opinion. I like being able to switch out people without losing a turn and being able to protect people by switching them out. I also like the sphere idea, but I'm not far enough through to really see that all come together.

It's not just a button masher. Yeah, the first 4-6 hours are pretty boring and limited so that you see how to play and story is set up. But, after the first blitzball tourney, things start getting good.

I like the FMV graphics a lot. They are very nice and on par with the FF movie (and why not? they are pre-rendered anyway). And while the regular play graphics are nice, it's not the best I've ever seen.

These are the exact reasons why I hated FFVII with such a passion. God it was a boring, linear piece of sh*t. I suppose that having spent so many years playing PC RPGs console ones just can't hold a candle to them. I will probably rent FFX but you guys say that you have to sit through 6 hours of FMV without a heck of a lot of gameplay? Groan :(

What's fun is breaking the damage limit and totally owning regular monsters, then challenging yourself by trying to fight the super hard monster trainer bosses.. (my tidus hits for 95k to 99,999 and maybe 150k with one of his ODs).

Also have to get break hp limit because those monsters hit for over 9999 all the time. have to build up your defense.. the main story line is nice but after beating the game i went back and did all the other things the game had to offer and im still doing it. I want my money's worth and the game offers that IMO.

Just went to the rental store they said I can have the game/system for 7 days for $30 CDN. Preatty good deal considering the game is $70 CDN where I live, plus the console which is $300..

Going to go pick it up now.

Mercon, PS2 consoles are $300 Cdn in Canada? There $300 US here, (I remember) so simply buying a console may be a really good deal :)
