I play at medium difficulty. I'm just a bit curious how much I have left? I'm in the Archive now. Am I just halfway or close to the end?

P.S. Oh, don't know if you need this tip, but try 3-5 bullets in the head instead of 25 in the chest.

The lack of a save when you want it option makes the game very hard for me.
Bring down the console and type save_game. To load the game type load_game.

Be warned that it doesn't save enemy states properly and sometimes your HUD disappears (though it comes back when you load a checkpoint) so use it sparingly and only where there are no enemies around.

I haven't beaten it yet, but so far it plays no more difficult than Deus Ex did.
You must be joking. Deus Ex is a walk in the park compared to Far Cry. The enemy AI in DE is incredibly stupid compared to Far Cry's. Also DE's combat speed was much slower.

God mode rocks!!

Really, I'm too lazy to type all that just to Save, F9(or other QuickSave button) or God mode for me. The lack of Quicksave/Quickload is the biggest Con about Far Cry IMO. Great game though.

It's the only time I think it is insanely difficult. I play on the level over normal and the difficulty was just perfect for me. It made the game not to be a single weekend entertainment.

The Volcano level is just stupid IMO ;), and it will be pure luck if I ever get through this. I doubt I even have enough ammo to kill the mutagens, and far to little health and stamina to outrun them :(

I managed to kill everyone on the 10th try or something, but then i fell down in the lava and died.
The next time i just ran past everyone and did´nt kill more then one or two mutants... much easier.

Thanks! And ouch! I didn't finish Half Life or Unreal. Doesn't look like I'll finish this one either.
I'm at the cooler now. I'll try soldiering on a bit more, and then maybe drop down to 'easy'. We'll see.

The final part of the Volcano level is much more manageable if you use guerrilla tactics - use the sniper rilfle to take out those jumping machine-gunners while using the door for cover. If you can't see them use the binoculars and they'll pick them out for you. Then engage the rocket mutants one at a time and use the entrance as cover.

If you run into the middle and try to fight there you'll get ripped a new one.

I wouldn?t exactly say it was a hard game to play, but rather annoying especially because of the no quicksave/load feature. To me, the absence of that means an immediate return to the store for a full re-fund.

Yes, sometimes, just running your ass off past a giant trigen works wonders. They are slow and have trouble hitting you with a rocket when you are sprinting. This simple strategy has worked well for me a couple of times in the realistic mode.

This game is hard. I went through the entire game on 'easy' and I though there were a lot of tough parts of the game. Curiousity got me to try 'realistic' mode, and after finishing the first couple of levels, I was hooked. It's like a completely different game. You can never just rambo your way through any level, you'll find the ground really soon. I find myself talking out one or two mercs from one position, and then running backwards as other mercs come to aid their fellow mercs. I'll make a half-circle and find a good spot to take out another couple of mercs, then find a new spot elesewhere. You really are hunting the mercs down. I find I use the binoc's a lot more than I ever did on 'easy' mode.

However, about one-third or halfway through, apparently your ammunition somehow is transformed into the nerf-variety, and it now becomes, "Rhenna shoots bad guy in the chest with 24 7.62mm centerfire rifle rounds at 15 paces, but mutated, drug-enhanced, heavily armored bad guy shrugs off that futile offensive exhibition and drops the 100% healthy, flak-vest equipped Rhenna with a single shot". Why do game developers think this constitutes fun? It's lame.
A game with difficulty based on realism would be an interesting idea. I have often thought so.
Having played many hours of Ghost Recon I think it would fit the bill if you added better AI to it. 1 or 2 hits and you are toast in Ghost Recon. a headshot is always a kill, even with the silenced 9mm with hardest difficulty. Pretty realistic from the "how much damage you can take" perspective.

I found parts of the game hard even on easy difficulty and even when using the console to quick-save.

Hehe, I know what you mean. There were 5 or 6 times I thought was the end yet weren't. When the end finally came, I couldn't help thinking how lame it was, anti-climatic to the extreme.

One of the most stupid things that is in the game for me (IMHO) is the running ability or should I say lack of running. If memory serves me right as its been awhile since I played and finished it.

You can only run for about 5/6 seconds then you run out of speed but of course everyone and everything else can go full speed as long as they like so the game was made right off the bat for the baddies and mutants to have a huge advantage over your counterpart...at least thats the way I see it.

Oh! and yes that point really frigg'n annoyed me, I have never played a FPS where you can only run for a few seconds or at least I don't remember one.

I did get out of the cooler eventually. But I've got console and saving games working now. I'm sure I'll need it soon enough.

FYI the 1.2 patch will supposedly add a proper quick save/load system but the damned thing appears to have been delayed. :|
