Is far cry too hard for anyone else?

Since getting my amd64 and 9800pro I've been playing far cry. The lack of a save when you want it option makes the game very hard for me. It's incredibly frustrating when I get killed by some far off bomb lobber (in a boat) and have to spend 15 minutes retracing steps I've already done.

I went and started over on easy, and it's STILL hard.!

The last few levels are pretty frustrating because you have to do it too many times.. I just used the quicksave "cheat" because it's just taking too long

I've been playing on easy.. just started a few days ago and about half way through.

It is harder than other game, but I think it just plays into the realistic factor.

When the mutated primates started showing up, that's when it gets tough... as in one swipe with their claw and you're dead.

On medium I found the difficulty very nice except for acouple of bits at the end which were just stupid-hard.

Agreed. The lack of quick save makes it a massive PITA occasionally. I cleared out the mob on top of the junked freighter and then died when I fell about 8 feet and took enough of a knock to kill me (health was really low) and then had to kill all the same guys.....AGAIN.

I haven't beaten it yet, but so far it plays no more difficult than Deus Ex did. It's like Deus Ex in a way: you have to learn to use stealth and avoid conflicts until you're good and ready. (Though not nearly as much)

From what I understand the later levels are a pain because you get pray-n-spray weapons and you have to use them against enemies that have specific hit boxes. That the case here?

I think you just type \save_game at a command prompt to save the game.

Deus Ex is much easier than Farcry.
Only half way through Far Cry (mutants with weapons bit), but it's already harder than DE ever was that I remember, and this is easy level on Farcry, I think medium in Deus Ex.

Even though it's hard I LOVE the graphics. The outdoor scenes are awesome. I'm early-on in the game (after starting over) I'm where there's this like half sunken ship.. I just reached the top deck. The water is awesome too.

The thing I like most is the "wide open" gameplay. There's not really a strict direct path you have to follow.

After dying on the last couple levels like 15 times in a row, I found some cheats just to see the end. I liked the game up until that point though, challenging and fun but not too bad. I started on easy cuz I'd heard before I bought it how tough it was. TBH, I actually wish the parts where you fight humans required MORE stealth tatctics. It seems all-to-often that some dumbass a mile away could see me through thick brush. I was also kind of dissapointed I couldn't sneak up on guys and finish them with a machete before they could react.

Medium was almost perfect in difficulty for me, excepet in the end where it was kind of hard.

Medium was easy. Easy is probably retarded.

If you are having trouble with the game, MAKE SURE your fps is staying consistantly above 60. Remember, the lower your frames are, the more 'actions' the ai will get as opposed to you.

I was trying to play the game with frame rates dropping as low as 8 FPS. I was only getting like 1 shotgun blast in before those pouncing beasts would hit and kill me. Once I realized my FPS was that low, I lowered all my settings and proceeded destroying everything.

I got really into Far Cry and then it started getting into mutants and dark areas and that crap turns me off so I stopped playing..When will video games stop resorting to "and then they made horrible twisted mutants!" "and then demons came out of the space portal!" IT seems like such a lack of creativity..maybe if shiny robots came out that would be better..or just enemies w/ personality

I was a bit dubious of that, and still am.
It seems like a cheap way to make harder enemies.
"Lets make them big and hard to kill, with rocket launchers!"
"Yeah! Kick ass!"

One reason I never looked at RtCW. (I think that was the game anyway)

yea, it is much harder than most other games. including deus ex. i beat deus ex both 1 and 2 no problem, but far cry is much harder. im currently playing it on medium difficulty and although im progressing, its not just a run n gun game like some other ones.

I agree about the mutants. I'm tired of that as well. I didn't like it in RTCW, and I don't like it now. When you were fighting humans, Far Cry was great. When you are fighting mutants, it blows.

I made it all the way thru on Medium, until fighting the helicopter at the very end. I tried about 50 times and then just gave up. I'd had my fun.

What helicopter at the very end? I think you quit way too soon.

Oh and since no one seems to have mentioned in any of the threads about this. There is a forklift on one of the levels which is indoors (the lift is up with a crate on it). I think it was about where you get the cryovision. If you drive it into the next room, there is an lifting platform which you drive onto an go up about 5 feet. You can then park the forklift so the crate on it spans a broken piece of the skywalk allowing a back way into one of the labs.

I'm getting weary of shooters where there is, at first, a logical and sensible degree of physics applied to the combat, i.e., "Rhenna shoots bad guy in the chest with a 12 gauge at 15 paces; bad guy lies very still afterwards". However, about one-third or halfway through, apparently your ammunition somehow is transformed into the nerf-variety, and it now becomes, "Rhenna shoots bad guy in the chest with 24 7.62mm centerfire rifle rounds at 15 paces, but mutated, drug-enhanced, heavily armored bad guy shrugs off that futile offensive exhibition and drops the 100% healthy, flak-vest equipped Rhenna with a single shot". Why do game developers think this constitutes fun? It's lame.

I usually find a lack of a quick save, in any games, to be a pain in the arse. But, it didnt bother me in Far Cry. I honestly liked the difficulty it imposed and it make me play even tigher and more conservativily.

But, I do understand your frustration.

I'm with you, warcrow. I really liked the fact that not being to save made me much more cautious and deliberate in the way I had to play. I thought medium setting was a perfect blend of difficulty and satisfaction.

A game with difficulty based on realism would be an interesting idea. I have often thought so.

I'm an old lady (well, old and old, most of my brain thinks I'm still 20) so I don't play much shooters. RPG is more my kind of thing. However I've bitten Half life, Unreal and now Far Cry. I play at medium difficulty. I'm just a bit curious how much I have left? I'm in the Archive now. Am I just halfway or close to the end?

P.S. Oh, don't know if you need this tip, but try 3-5 bullets in the head instead of 25 in the chest.

Passed it on realistic. Extremely difficult and would not have done it without /save_game 01. After awhile I became an ace at aiming for the head first every single time and the humans were no challenge compared to the trigens. I completely destroyed my friends when we lanned, they're nothing compared to the invisible take 20 bullets to the chest trigens.

I must say although I like a challenging game, some parts are ridiculous, if I actually wanted to die so badly and have such realisim in a game, I can *GASP* go outside and do it.
