Is false-quoting allowed, when there is no obvious indication that it was "fixed"?

I suppose.

In this thread:
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2031140&page=4

I just remember that there was another member in the Video forum, complaining several times to Wreckage to fix his "misquotes" of him, which he never did.

I think this is playing dirty, myself.

I mean, I've seen when people "fix" quotes, but generally they say "fixed" below that, to indicate that they were "correcting" someone.

Not just misquoting on purpose, and then replying as if nothing strange was going on.

I always thought it wasn't allowed in the tech forums, just the social forums?

From what I understand it is also being addressed concerning the social forums also.....
I believe it is also being addressed concerning people who make up obvioulsy false quotes and attribute them to people like the POTUS.....and others.......including our former POTUS.....it`s actually quite amazing what is false in some peoples signatures too..lol

That's a staple of the social forums.

In the social forums, an indicator that the quote was modified may be allowed.

It will not be considered acceptable on the technical side if it is changing information posted previosuly in a the thread by another member

Wreckage has been advised and will correct his post.

This is quite common in the video forum as you can see.

I had never been called on it before and did not see it specifically mentioned in the ToS. (nor have I seen anyone else admonished for it).

I have removed the line though, so as not to cause a fluff.

The difference being that he said "Fixed for ya''. So everyone knew he had manipulated the quote. Yours did not have any disclaimer that the quote was tampered with.
