Is FAH down for anyone else?

My videocard hasn't been able to crunch a unit for 1-2 months (shortly after this thread http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2388157&highlight= I couldn't get graphcs units at all but I figured my old graphics card was no longer supported.

Today it looks like I haven't been able to download any units for my cpu now either. Anyone else having this problem? There hasn't been any changes to this machine.

For the graphics part, I suggest you check your GPUs.txt file and make sure it is up to date and that your graphics card is listed as being supported.

My graphics card is included in my white list. Yesterday morning I completely deleted FAH - including it's firewall exceptions-and reinstalled. Still no luck more than 24 hours later. Here is the error portion of my log:

I've been doing FAH since at least 2001 but I've reached the end of my rope with them. Apparently they are only interested in those that can provide the latest and greatest equipment to fold.

Any one have any suggestions for an alternative to FAH? Here are my requirments:
-run on basic Windows desktop equipment
-project actually does some good for humanity versus crunching for crunching's sake
-project is run by legit nonprofit or legit educational organization-I'm not interested in donating my time and equipment to help big pharma's profits alone.

Hm, GT240 doesn't do double-precision. So that pretty much leaves FAH, Einstein@Home, or SETI@Home.

Sorry to hear about your problems

Please be aware that all projects will have problems from time to time. It helps to have some secondary projects. Or switch from one to another occasionally.

If we knew what GPU you have, it would help in giving suggestions.

But there is not a lot of choice with your requirements. These may not meet all of them. I am guessing that you would like to stay with med/bio type projects?

For GPU:
GPUGrid will only run on nvidia
Poem will run on nvidia and AMD, these WUs can be hard to get good for a backup project
World Community Grid used to have GPU WUs and may again in the future

For CPU:
World Community Grid (has a cancer project)
Rosetta@home
Malaria Control Project
There are others ...
It looks like they are trying to get DNA@home back up again.

Half the fun is looking for and trying different projects :thumbsup:

I know it is a hassle when things go south with no clear path back to normal.

I folded with GTX 260's a while back but they are non-Fermi cards. Still you should be able to find work.

The only projects I do now are Folding and Seti.

I used to do Rosetta a long time ago. It is a Boinc protein folding project, you might look into that.

Thanks Pokey. I'll give that a try tonight. I did a completely clean uninstall this morning as it still wasn't working.

I tend to check my FAH every day to make sure it is working. One can only imagine the vast number of people who installed as anonymous and presume it is still working and it is not.
