If you live in a house, albeit one with social strife, are you spoiled so long as you have the means to pay to live in that house?

Are you spoiled because you received gifts...even though they are gifts given to you because you gave gifts first?

Are you spoiled because you have a family, dysfunctional as it is?

Are you spoiled because you have the material goods you do?

Are you spoiled because you go to college?

Are you spoiled because you have a decent job that pulls down relatively good pay?

Are you spoiled because your parents gave you a car

Are you spoiled because you have grandparents?

Now I don't fit everyone of these, just listing countless examples on why some people label each other spoiled. I'm labelled spoiled because I go to college and my parents are helping me out with that. I think there's a big difference between being spoiled and being fortunate. Spoiled, in my opinion, is receiving everything and STILL complaining. Being fortunate is realizing what you have and being content. I think it's human nature to want, just like that "Is everyone selfish" thread talks about. Everybody has desires. But being a moreso fortunate person, I'd expect that person to still have desires.

I just know someone is going to bring up how spoiled I am because I dont' live in a third world country. That one ALWAYS comes up.

A spoiled person is a fortunate person who does not recognize how fortunate he is and/or takes his fortune for granted.

<< Are you spoiled because to have a family, dysfunctional as it is? >>

Huh? I don't think that's even gramatically correct.

<< Are you spoiled because you have the material goods that you have?

Are you spoiled because you go to college with some help from your parents?

Are you spoiled because you have grandparents?
>>

What do any of these 3 have to do with being spoiled?

<< Are you spoiled because you have a decent job that pulls down relatively good pay? >>

Depends on how you got the job. If you deserve it, no.
>>

The three you listed are ones that I brought up because that's why some people call my spoiled.

If you are complaining about something you got from relatives (or whoever) that you did not pay for you are spoiled. Say you get a car (new or used, DOES NOT MATTER) from your parents and you start complaining about it, you are spoiled. Either you work to get the stuff you want or don't complain about what you are getting.

Damn Russ you beat me to it.

Example: He complains about driving a "Sub $10k POS that his parents gave him".

Exactly, I couldn't have put it any better.

Would you become spoiled if you have some selfish desires?

Being spoiled concerns how you feel about what you have.

In order to be spoiled, you both need to be fortunate (in some meaning of the word) and thankless about it.

If you're piss-poor, you cannot be spoiled regardless of how selfish your desires are.

I have a lot of stuff. I'll even go so far to say that I'm very fortunate. I am thankful for it as well. Does that mean that its bad for me to ask for more stuff (i.e. better car, new clothes, etc?). I don't think so. But it also isn't wrong for my parents to say "That's a waste. Get a job :)"
