Is everyone getting terrible FPS in World in Conflict?

I saw this game at work (Target) and was very tempted to buy it. After getting shafted by MoH:A and it's terrible performance, I decided to download the demo and try it out first.

Test system:

Opteron 170 @ 2.6GHZ
2GB OCZ RAM @ 260mhz 3-3-3-5
2900XT @ 800/900
Vista
CAT 7.9

In-game benchmark

1920x1200, settings maxed (I didnt see an option for DX10 or DX9 in the menu), 4x/16x AA/AF

Min - 2 fps
Avg - 5 fps
Max - 11 fps

1920x1200, settings on default, 2x/4x AA/AF

Min - 5 fps
Avg - 7 fps
Max - 14 fps

Is this typical performance for this game? I looked for benches on the net and couldnt find any relevant benchmarks. The ones I found either had no 2900XT or used low resolutions.

You know, I think your system is somehow tanking in your games. I see no reason for you to have such low fps...Unless a 2.6Ghz Opteron is THAT old now...i dunno what to say.

Does this game take advantage of multiple core CPU's? If not, that Opty 170 should be more than enough. Maybe it's just the driver he's using? Matt, I know it's a hassle, but have you tried 7.8's or 7.6's? 7.7's are useless so don't even bother. Maybe the 7.9's don't like this game.

I'm at a loss as well.

My 3DMark06 is in the 9k range and older games such as FEAR, Far Cry and CoH scores seem to match up to others. I dunno.

Maybe 2GB of RAM is limiting me in Vista? ATI drivers suck a big one? I'd really like to find out what is going on.

Ok, so as it turns out, I was in DX10 mode.

I switched over to DX9 and here are my new numbers:

1920x1200, DX9, med/high quality, no AA, no AF

Min - 10
Avg - 32
Max - 82

Better, but damn, 5 fps in DX10 mode?

So much for those (including myself) that thought R600 would do ok in DX10.

DX10 in this game is crap on everything when you're running such a high resolution. Period.

It's not the card, it's not your CPU or your memory or the OS. It's that in the resolution you're running, newer DX10 games can't do it. That's gotta be it. i'm downloading the demo...will benchmark for you

The resolution is tough on cards, but the 2900XT has shown to be neck and neck in most situations at 19x12 with the 8800GTS and in the same ball park as the 8800GTX. There's absolutely no freakin excuse for 5 fps.

Plus, putting the blame on DX10 doesnt explain the poor MoH:A performance. Nor does it explain why I get acceptable framerates at 19x12 in CoH DX10 and the Lost Planet DX10 demo.

hmmm, I get better fps with DX10 on.

DX10, 1680x1050, high quality, 16xCSAA, 16xAF

Avg - 26
Min - 11
Max - 30

DX9, all other settings the same

Avg - 12
Min - 4
Max 30

The game has been crashing on me though, the video driver keeps having an error and then recovering, which causes the video to lock up. I can ctrl-alt-del and end the task, then Vista complains about the video driver having a problem and recovering. I've lowered the graphics settings a little and I've finally made it through a whole mission.

Game is running worse than :( the beta :!

I use to get average 45FPS in DX9 mode in the beta but now i am down too average 20FPS.

1920x1200 8xAA, 16xAF.

I think the game shipped with a major bug.

Last time this happened was with might and Magic Dark Messiah which caused by the DRM crap :!

Gamespot :
1600x1200, Very High Quality
Windows XP DX9 - GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB

Windows Vista DX9 - GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB

Windows Vista DX9 - Radeon HD 2900 XT 512MB

Intel Core2 Duo E6600 @ 2.40GHz

Intel Core2 Duo E6300 @ 1.86GHz
24
AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 @ 2.6GHz

AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 @ 2.0 GHz

From this i can gather that game was badly optimized for Windows XP. Also the game needs a Intel Dual core @ 2.6GHz to run at smooth frame rate and needs 3GB of ram in Windows xp or 2GB in Windows Vista to run it smooth

C2D E6600 @ 3ghz.
8800GTS Superclocked 576/1650

I hover around 40 FPS at high detail 1280*768 When a nuke goes off, it always drops to the low 20's...which is crazy in my opinion.

I've found dropping the detail to "medium" gives a HUGE boost in performance, and it looks almost is good. If you are having trouble, drop the resolution to 1280X720 and medium detail. Pretty much any card from a 7300 up should be able to handle that nicely.

I've been playing the actual demo and at 1920x1200, DX10, high settings, 2x/2x AA/AF, the game is playable. FPS feels like it's in the 20's, but for an RTS, I can live with that.

I'm assuming the actual game is going to much harder on my system as the number of units on the screen probably quadrouples as the game goes on.

I bought the retail copy today so we will see if it plays better than the demo.

With DX10 in the demo I get pretty low fps at 1280x1024. So I think either the drivers need work, or the game needs better code (demo using old code?).

CoH has been a tough test for this year's new video cards, so if that scores well, the there must be driver issues for the game.

Besides, you have an oc'ed 2900XT. How can it drop below 30fps (ave) ?

It shouldnt. I think ATI needs a driver update but they're too damn stuborn to release hot fixes like Nvidia does with their beta drivers.

I swear, if I dont see some improvements in WiC and MoH:A, I'm going to jump ship on ATI and go back to the green side.

That being said, WOW! What a freakin awesome game this is. I am totally immersed in the single player campaign. I just played the Pine Valley mission and it was intense. Calling in airstrikes, artillery and naval gun support to fend off a numerically superior force is probably the coolest thing I have ever done in a game. I'm glad someone actually made a quality RTS game with modern military unts. I was getting really sick and tired of WWII and Sci-Fi based RTS games.

I think you cpu is the culprit.
