Is everybody getting comfy with 'President" Obama?

Or are you provisioning your life raft and compounds for a mighty wave?

It seems to me that the purging of excess fear and loathing, of the kind we see directed at Obama can be for the psyche a very good thing.

In the first place, many many people are probably shocked and amazed to find just how much pent up emotional anxiety they harbor for this socialist-commie, Islamo-terrorist, n-man they feel and getting it all out is like having a boil lanced.

It's like psychotherapy where one relives a trauma, an unconscious haunting that when brought to the surface and relived purges the emotional force that keeps it haunting us.

And if we survive Obama, the worst of the worst, we can survive anything.

Hey, we know that psychological health requires that we go in the direction of our fears. Our fear of the unknown is always greater than our fear of anything real.

Just imagine if Liberal is the answer to all our problems and finally at last maybe but only just maybe and a very unlikely maybe at that, it will be forced down our conservative throats like bitter medicine. Once you get past that bitter part, health is just hours away.

So the vomiting of conservative America, in my opinion, at least, is a sure sign that afterwards folk of that stripe will feel very much better. We're about to step into a brighter and less anxious world, so puke it out now as much as you can.

The reconciliation of opposites in higher level understanding can happen only after fear and tension dissipate. Good luck and know that while bigotry dies the fundamental goodness one imagines one protects by it is actually real. It's real as real can be but doesn't need bigotry to maintain it.

We are all the same and there is only love.

So how are you feeling? Optimistic?

"getting comfy" is not the phrase I would use. It's more like "giving in" and "getting sickened".

I'm still convinced he's going to be a mediocre-to-terrible president... but fuck it.

let's get don't ask/don't tell off the books and give the democrats their chance to fuck it up too to prove that both parties are equally entrenched and incompetent.

I agree with this 100%. If he wins and the dems fuck up the country even more, it will show it is time to retire both parties. Neither could get the job done. Maybe then people will realize that DC and politics in general, needs a HUGE enema.

You are most certainly entitled to believe and express whatever you wish, but when was the last time you wrote a post that was not chalked full of cynicism? One of the biggest problems with America right now is the lack of confidence and/or fear right now and that is largely due (not entirely) to the past 8 years. Personally, I still believe in our government. I may not agree with it all of the time, but I most certainly believe in it which goes way beyond simply believing in just the constitution. I believe that our government can do what it is trying to do today and do it properly. We just need the right people and Obama is one of them.

I am ready.

I am ready for the new crop of apologists, and ready for the "well he's better than Bush," line to be used frequently.

You want to see some real hate? Wait until Nov. 5th. Then you'll see an explosion of unhinged insanity from a lot of the usual suspects along with dire predictions of doom and gloom.

Then, a few months down the road, certainly too early for any new policies to have taken effect, our economy will be in the same situation it is now, and all the same people will come out and say "I THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE CHANGE WHERE IS IT BWOO HOO". People will responsibly point out that you can't turn a country around in a couple months, and they will then be branded by these same people as 'BHO apologists'.

Such is life.

Obama will be the first President in quite awhile who didn't get elected by corporate money.
That's what makes his Presidency give me hope.

At least those who will be yelling that crap out of a major misunderstanding that such things take time and a lot of it are easy enough to ignore and have no power after the votes are in. At the end of the day, that is what allows me to sleep at night.

Obama/Biden will also make history by being the first President and Vice President combination where neither of them were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. That's a big plus for me when it comes to representation.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I certainly don't hope Obama blows it, but I suspect he will. I don't see how he can deliver on half of his promises (thankfully), but I doubt any of his supporters will hold his feet to the fire over it; we'll simply get "hey, he's not Bush or some other Repug".

It'll be rich.

I suspect Obama will surprise everyone, including most Democrats, when he governs as a centrist like Clinton did.

American politics move in cycles, but neither party has proven very capable at leading when they have a true majority and clear mandate.

Liberalism didn't save us from the Great Depression and it sure as hell didn't provide solutions as we transitioned from the socially charged 60s to the uncertain 70s. Just as Reagan took the White House due to American frustration with Carter liberalism, Obama will take the White House due to American frustration with Bush conservatism.

Pure liberalism is no more the answer to our problems than pure conservatism..our nation has been at its greatest when it struck a balance between the ideologies.

After eight years of total neglect, there are more areas to fix than anyone can shake a stick at, and our next President is only going to be able to concentrate on a small fraction of high priority items.

I have no idea why that would surprise anyone. His entire policy platform is very centrist. It might be that because we are so used to policies from the ultra right that a centrist position appears 'liberal', but that doesn't make it so.

He's for similar military expenditures as we're currently seeing, he voted for that FISA bill, his health care plan is a band-aid on the current bankrupt corporate structure, and a lot of his tax plan relies on the removal of Bush's huge tax cuts for the rich, not the introduction of new taxes for them, etc. Sure it's to the left of what we have now, but jesus... what isn't?

I think so too. I also believe Obama will surprise a lot of people, including many of the non-believers here.

He knows as the first African-American President he will have to work twice as hard, as he will be a spotlight in our nation's history that will be talked about for decades to come. I don't think he plans on messing this up.

Another thing that tells me he will make a good President is his ability to see and prepare not only for the present, but for the future. Way before the primaries were over, he had constructed a superb ground-game in several key states in preparation for the general election. Behind close doors, he is now already talking to some economic/political leaders telling them "he is going to need their help" in office. He has shown he will listen and bring together several experts from all sides and listen to what they have to say, wether they share his views or not.

I truly believe he will be working non-stop to turn things around. There won't be any excuses if he messes up, I won't say "well at least he is not Bush" or anything like that. A lot is expected from him, and I'm confident that he will deliver.

Keep in mind that Obama/Biden cannot hold the fort alone. There will be many people involved when it comes to the delivery of his promises as is the case with all presidents. More important than that is taking into consideration the amount of time it will take for our government and country to enact a solution for some of these problems regardless of who is president. Personally, I am not expecting Obama to get us out of the monstrosity of the mess that we are currently saturated in. I believe he has the power and the mind to do so, but I don't believe he has the time even if elected for a second term. I do believe that we will see some of his promises delivered and what I hope is that he at least gets us setup on the right track for the remaining problems so that our future president and congress has the opportunity to follow through while also making amends to whatever needs amending along the way. Our train has been derailed. We need to fix that first.

I think Clintons centrist policy hinged more on his initial policy getting the dems blown out in the 94 elections. After that he was forced to work with a republican majoirty.

I dont know how he will govern for certain. But his limited past suggests otherwise. His voting record is considered one of the most left in the senate and he votes with the democrat leadership nearly 100% of the time. A centrist or a lockstep liberal? It should be interesting to see none the less. He ran a centrist themed campaign. If he veers off track the dems take it in the shorts in 2010 and he may not survive relection in 2012.
