Is emule a piece of junk?

Do you mean it takes forever to have the download start or does it take forever for the file to d/l once it has started...I can't even get one single file of any type to even start.

do you have a high user id?

ive been using it for awhile, got it working pretty good but just use it as a backup for files i cant find anywhere else. It is slow to start and complete, you just have to let em sit for a week

I seem to recall that it would just queue you up for a dog's age. Unlike kazaa where you can locate a file and zap it down, emule is really meant to be left on in the background doggedly, and slowly, downloading whatever you are trying to get. Bad for mp3s (go with kazaa), but good for rarer items like poodle-porn and the like.

Apparently I don't have a "high user id"...what is it? Is it important in order to get into the d/l queue?

Don't be so quick to judge, without watching some first.

yup.

if you look around on the emule/edonkey forums you should get some help in obtaining one, sounds like you need to open ports on your router/firewall

Read this for info about low and high id.

I use winmx for single songs, and emule for everything else.

What about good old Kazaa Lite? You can still DL it legally - feel free to PM me if you need the link.

im talking in the way of programs, like you know freeware programs 😉

but ares has gotten some good stuff on it too. not quite as refined as kazaa yet though.

if your on a router you need to forward your ports, go to dslreports forums, they have links on how to do it..
one trick I learnt was set the item priority you want to "release" in the shared files tab and you will get it faster.

Emule is damn good. You can get almost everything and anything from e-books to the usual stuff.

RTFM. visit the faq's page and the forum in the emule website.

Kazaa Lite is still free, just tough to find. Kazaa has really cracked down on them, and seems to have been successful in getting most of the sites hosting KL downloads to remove it. It's worth tracking down, IMO, because I don't want to pay for or register Kazaa Desktop, and emule seems really worthless to me.

THis site helped my. I am using a D-Link router, and it'll walk you through configuring your D-Link, E-Tech and Siemens Speedstream routers.

Cheers!

Yeah, but even with KL you still have to sort through a bunch of screwed up songs, piss poor burns, screwed up/lacking altogether tags, misnamed files, etc. Not worth it. allofmp3.com owns me 🙂

Edit: And yes, Emule does really suck.
