Is ECost.com a good e-tailer?

Recently I've been looking for a good, inexpensive a/v reciever, and someone on this board pointed me to a refurbished Onkyo TX-SR501 at ecost.com. I've been looking for information on this place, and have seen some mixed reviews, to say the least. Has anyone here dealt with them? what did you think?

If I don't order from there, my local Ultimate Electronics has an open-box Pioneer VSX-D711K on sale for $214, or a new Panasonic SA-HE75K for $199.99 that I can pick up, too.

I've used ecost.com before and they did a great job. Got my laptop in 3 days. M y former housemate bought a dvcam off of them with no problems either 🙂

I bought a pair of headphones at a really great price, everything came as advertised and works great. 🙂

EDIT: I have been getting some spam mail from them though

I have ordered from them multiple times, never an issue. Including that Onkyo 😉

I knew somebody here had pointed it out...just couldn't remember who. Thanks a lot!

What speakers do you have hooked up to it? Just curious.

Got my whole speaker system from there. No shipping costs at all except for that handling charge, showed up quickly and was in great condition.

I think they get their stuff straight from Onkyo and you get an Onkyo warranty.

I half-remember a Hot Deals thread on them where people were complaining that one receiver came with zero warranty because eCost wasn't authorized to sell it, and that this was not made clear in the item listing.

I've never bought from them myself though.

BTW jandr.com sells both new and refurb Onkyos at decent prices, at least for the 601-801 I was looking at.

Actually, I'm going to chang emy opinion. Just checked my bank statement. I returned a video camera, and got $251. It cost $200. They were nice enough to pay for shipping, and not charge the restock fee (apparently).

I have the Onkyo TX-SR501 from eCost and it came in excellent condition. I was a little worried since it was refurbished, but it came looking brand-new. There weren't any cosmetic blemishes that could be noticed.

I'm currently running two Fluance 42" speakers and I'm very happy with the quality.

These?
Nah. The ones I have are cheaper and they no longer make 'em. Those are very good though.

I was just guessing - going by the measurements they gave.

Oh and bump for the late night / early morning crowd. I'm going to hit the sack.
