Is ECC RAM slower?

Now that ECC RAM and standard DRAM prices only vary by a few $, I was wondering if ECC RAM is slower (and if so by how much)? Does ECC RAM have a place in a gamer's computer or is standard RAM better? Thanks.

Im pretty slow ECC is slightly slightly slower. But since it costs more, what's the point of that?

There is no place for it in a gaming PC, or any PC really other than servers or other computers with mission critical data.

not by that much... ECC (when enabled) is slower, only because the error checking code requires time to be used....

only use ECC if you have what piku mentioned...
