Is DVI that much better than regular analog for displays?

I am thinking of dropping the extra cash for a DVI capable LCD instead of just the regular analog input. Is there a good deal of improvement? Especially in the edges of characters and color representation?

I went to bestbuy, and I saw all the LCDs there, and I wasn't too impressed with the LCDs, a lot of the video seemed blurry at best. I was thinking that this may be due either a poor quality signal or the analog input of the LCDs. Either way, its something that I want to avoid like the plague, it makes my eyes very tired.

Overall, I want to get a display that will allow me to keep on viewing for hours on end without getting a headache or causing my eyeballs to roll back into their sockets. I was thinking of the Samsung 955 CRT, but now Im thinking an LCD might be better than an electron gun pointed at your face.

The blurring is caused by high latency time. Go with a Dell 1800fp LCD (or samsung 18.1" LCD which is the same as the dell) or a Planar 17.4" LCD and you won't have that problem. All of these LCD's can be bought at Dell. I've seen the Dell 1800fp for as low as $430.00+tax shipped.

Dell 1800FP LCD

Looks like it's not on sale anymore. Check the "hotdeals" forum to find deals on the LCD's

hi,
from my experience going from a crt to an lcd made my eyes much happier. the refresh scan "blinking" of the crt just got to me after a few hours. there is none of this on a lcd display. also, the picture seen on large store displays is typically a bad (split many ways and multi-dropped) analog signal that doesnt show the true display quality. that being said, i can definitely see a quality difference between the analog and digital inputs on my samsung 171p and the dvi is definitely superior. get a dvi input lcd with good contrast and brightness specs and good risetime and you'll be very much happier, especially if you are having viewing problems now with a crt.
good luck
