Hi guys,

I really need your hardware expertise on this one. I bought two new ibm p260 monitors (got it on the staples price match), they come with DVI and HD15 inputs.

I am currently running maxtor g450 video card connected to both monitors. I noticed slight shadows w/ the supplied DVI cable with the HD15 adaptor connected to the vid card. the connection is very tight on the video card).

I was wondering if upgrading to two video cards 1 agp and 1 pci for twinview with DVI inputs will improve the image quality of the monitor or am i just wasting my money.

I was thinking agp 3D Prophet? II GTS 64MB/ pci 3dfx voodo 5500 pci w/ DVI INPUT. thanks

generally speaking, DVI if correctly implemented is better. it's a digital interface =) if the monitor is indeed a true DVI, if it's a CRT, that means the DAC is on the monitor, which i consider better than the DAC being on the video card. if it's an LCD, DVI period. HD15 is analog. so that's not good for an LCD, which means the LCD has to do, ADC which sucks, since the video card already does DAC, so it's digital to analog back to digital, which causes many problems =(

of course going DVI vs HD 15 is not really a reason to buy anything, unless you're getting an LCD. it's not worth effort really...

one thing, the DVI interface has (as an option) to output analog as well for backwards compatibility, hence the adapter exists. so, the adapter does not do any conversions ;-) i hate the adapters, they all suck =( the adapter does nothing to the digital signal of the DVI, and digital displays do not receive the analog signal.

having the ghosting is not a good thing. use the HD15 interface. there is no logical reason to replace the video card just for the output...

going from the matrox to the GTS+voodoo would improve your 3d performance significantly. but the matrox card has superior 2d, for your graphics work... and you lose the dual-head features of the matrox card. (one of which is spanning DVD onto both displays)

note: using 2 video cards, the secondary display adapter is nothing more than an extension of your desktop. some games such as MS Flight Simulator will allow you to use the second monitor, most will not.
