Is dust really that bad?

The house where I live has an unpaved driveway. Recently the water main burst and the old one had to be dug out. Now there is a long 14" dirt scar that kicks up dust every time I pull in or out. My car is frequently coated with a light coat of dust.

I've read that dust is bad for the paint, supposedly. The reason given was that dust can contain acid and pollutant particles. But this dust is coming from a patch of earth off the road. I wonder how much damage it can really do.

Sincerely,

Tired of washing and waxing

No more damaging then any other dirt you get whle driving.

Get some cheap bagged concrete and pour it on that area dry. It will not harden 100% but will get firm enough to stop most of the dust up. HD has their 60lb bags on sale for $1.99. Today is the last day though.

I'm confused - the unpaved scar in the unpaved driveway is causing the dust? The unpaved driveway doesn't cause the dust? Can you rake some of the good unpaved material over the hole where the bad unpaved material is and tamp it down?

I think people exaggerate how bad dirty paint is. If anything, washing too much is worse because no matter how careful you are, you are causing some scratching from the dirt.

It depends on the "dirt" some of it can damage the hell out of your paint in no-time flat. I missed a love-bug on the front of my c6 for a few days and it still wears the scar.

Just don't brush any kind of cloth against it while it's dusty, otherwise just a spray of water should get most of it off. When I had my garage built they had to grade the land so it was dusty as a bitch in the summer.

That's a great great idea, thanks.

There was a layer of fine pebble over the top of the dirt, is what it was. That kept the dust down. The plumbing guys tore that layer all up.
