Is dumbell press supposed to be harder than bench press?

Not only that but you muscle groups are moving independantly from one side of your body to the other. With a bar it takes much less effort to keep you hands aligned.
 
Yeah, for a varient of reasons. I would be mighty surprised if you didn't have to go down to less weight than barbell bench.
 
Dumbell press involves a lot more of the stabilizer muscles, and doesn't allow you to cheat by using one side to help you out if the other is too weak.

At least for chest exercises, I've always found dumbell > bar.
 
well, other than that. Id imagine it is, because your forearms and arms are being stressed just to keep the things properly balanced. I havent benched in a while, and i just took 2 45 lb dumbells and did a few presses, felt kinda hard though. Maybe i just got weaker:-(
 
Same thing everyone else said... mostly comes down to stabilizer muscles.

Try using a wider grip so you focus on your pecs instead of your tris. Also, hopefully you're not doing 135 through all your sets. You should be starting with a low weight warm-up then bumping up the weight. Try nocking a few reps off your last two sets and bumping up the weight. Also, lift as many times as you can. Don't limit yourself to rep/set systems... push yourself until you can't do another rep.
