Still legal in PA. It should be illegal. It's dangerous. Especially if you're not using a hands-free.

The cops in my neighborhood give out tickets for something like "driving while encumbered" or some crap if you aren't using an ear piece or hands-free set of some kind.

Should be illegal, unless you're using hands-free... then it is like talking to your friends in the same car.

it is in texas but isnt enforced.

Its just one of those laws that lets a cop be a real prick to you if you are to him.

Right. Wrong. Right. Right

I loath irresponisble cell phone use, but I'll be damned to agree with yet another law limiting freedom.

Why a NYer? It has been illegal here for years, and is heavily enforced.

Because Pennsies and NYers suck at the driving.

Suppose you'd support legalizing DUI. It's our right to drink, right?

Umm it's only illegal in NY if you don't use a headset.

There are plenty of people who can multitask well enough to drive and talk on the cell phone without driving like crap but the problem comes in that a number of people just can't drive and talk on the phone at the same time.

Ideally a person should let the person they are talking to know that they are driving. And the driver shouldn't have any problem telling the caller to hold on if driving becomes tricky.

What's funny is that the law came in to being because of the danger of cell phones, so the fines are to be used to fund a study to see if cell phones are dangerous.

Fine to do in Illinois. I do it but not very often and never in traffic. A stick is hard enough to drive let along talking on a phone. My friend does the same in a jeep while smoking, can't stand it.

Can you imagine making a turn where you have to turn the blinker on and off manually using the arm that branches off of the column, turn the wheel, shift gears, and talk holding a phone to your face at the same time -and pull it off as if I'm driving a fully functioning automatic while not on the phone? I gots skizilz y0.
