Thanks for pre-ordering from EBgames.com! As an added benefit to ordering from us, we'll keep you informed of ship date changes. We are writing to let you know that we have changed the projected ship date for DOOM 3 to 6/15/2004. The publisher did not provide us with a specific date so this is our best estimate only and should not be considered firm. We will update this date again as we receive new information. As always, EBgames.com will not charge your credit card until we ship your order.

AAAAAAAAARGH!!

Carmack may be a mad coding machine, but he's got to be cracking for seti@home or something because all that mad coding ain't producing SH|T.

Note to self, never pre-order games. Still waiting HL2 I ordered from CompUSA, which supposedly came last September.

What I want to know is just what is holding up the game. Is it the dev tools? I have heard that the leaked beta worked ok so it can't be a primitive engine. Anyway, I think the game will be out this year regardless. The potential multi million dollar engine and Carmack's reputation is on the line so I am pretty sure the game will be out before the engine is outdated.

I had a chance to see the leaked beta a week ago, and it's absolutely beautiful, although the engine still needs some tweaking for performance. The levels are not complete yet (you run down certain hallways and the game crashes or you run out of the map like clipping in other games), and the sound effects sucked (like they were just temp effects). So there is a tangible product that is getting close to completion.

Why would they release the game now when they can build up anticipation for it and release it for the holiday season?

Oh ok, thats good to know....

First off I thought July was and has been for awhile, the intended launch date....
Second, They have been working on other things, but the Doom3 engine alone is a pretty impressive feat so I don't get where this "Isn't producing shiat" bit comes from.

Just chill out pople, I think its more than a little unreasonable to compare it to DNF.

This game will precipitate a torrent of new video card (and or new cpu/mobo/other hardware) purchases.

There is great power and big money being brokered and wielded in the Arena.

Thus, there are reasons for the delay other than code.

Doom3's release will coincide with key graphic card releases and possibly other hardware too.

They're just waiting to see what HL2 comes out with so they won't experience obsolescence... half the reason I think HL2 was delayed so long. It's whoever makes the most money after all.

Doom3 would sell like mad regardless of holiday season or not. BUT--Summer release can mean an expansion pack for Christmas shopping :)
