Is DirectX8.1 compatible with older cards ?

I'm planning on getting the Radeon 7500 which is as you know DirectX7 compliant, but most of the games I play are DX8.1 If 8.1 is installed, will it work on a scaled down capacity perhaps? It either has to work or I may lavish myself with the 9500 Pro, DirectX9 🙂

Like to be sure my exisiting games will work first.

Yeah, it will work.

It just means that the gfx card will not be able to do the extra things in DX8.1 over 7. It will have no problems in actually running the game, however the speed with the 7500 won't be anywhere as good as with the 9500 😉

I think that the 8500 will be much better than the 7500, it's like comparing a GF2 to a GF4 Ti4200 (close to anyway 🙂)
