Is direct connect secure in chat programs?

If a chat client used direct connect, would that make you nervous about security issues? Would it keep you from using a certain client if that client used direct connect?

I would think that client was more secure.
If all messages go through a central server anyone who taps the server could read those messages. If everyone's using direct connect, each message that's sent would need to be intercepted.

I didnt know you could use DC for IMs.

Well sure, why couldn't you? All it means is sending the data just between the two involved computers rather than passing it through a server in the middle (typically called the proxy server).
