is Dexter supposed to be good, or get better?

One of the greatest shows ever. Definitely gets better during the last several episodes. Can't wait for season 4!

weeds, really? It's a 25 minute show now and half of it is a terrible advertisement for the product of the week. not to mention they get through about 2 minutes of actual story per episode. The first and seconds seasons were pretty good, but started going downhill, then their timeslot got cut.

Weeds needed to remain a one-hour show, I agree.

It's always been a half hour show, are we talking about the same Weeds?

The first part of the first season the actors really didnt have a handle on their characters. It gets much better.

LS21 - not every show is for everyone... I enjoy the show - and it only gets better as it goes along....

Ridiculous show that has no sense of what to do with the concept now that it's become popular. I don't think I can bring myself to watch past season 3. Bail out now and watch something better, especially if you're used to The Wire.

Dexter is one of my favorite shows. But I disagree with everyone who is telling you to keep watching because it will get better.
If you don't like it after 4 episodes, I don't think you ever will.

I'm not really sure how you can say that a show with a brutally violent serial killer as the "good guy" is like a CBS show.

Well, it was shown on CBS last summer and it is owned by the CBS conglomerate, so it's not a big stretch...

Like others have said - it starts to pick up in ep5 [I just finished watching S1, episodes 1-8 - so I've got A LOT of catching up to do - [netflix ftw!].

I personally like the show - I can easily identify what Dexter is going through...and it's good to see the bad guys get what they deserve...

Hated Lila, and they've made Rita into a unlikeable character now unfortunately. Still a great show though, gotta rewatch the first 3 seasons before the new one starts

yea and the third book is bonkers, glad they stopped following them.

Also to the OP Dexter is a great show, and while in the beginning the acting is a little rough it gets much much better. I was actually hooked on the first episode after Dexter kills that child molester so I dunno maybe you wont like it. I like having the bad guys get what they deserve after manipulating the legal system to get let go. Oh and Doakes (the black cop) is great, you will either love him or hate him.

Overall, I like it - a lot. It's edgy - at times, inexplicably. Some of the characters are sometimes annoying. dexter's sister can be a stupid punk and yet she's grown on me. My least favorite is dexter's girlfriend - mostly a limp biscuit.

If you like boats and/or sunshine and open water, it's hard not to like.
