This includes a representative democracy. Should every adult have the right to vote?

I see many problems with giving a blank right to vote for so many people.

1. Many people are ignorant, and vote with their ignorance. Look at the tea party, a whole organization of voters that are nothing but ignorant.

2. Many people are of poor education, and vote for things based off this poor education. Just look at all of the creationist who are pushing for creationism in schools.

3. Many people are bigots, and vote with their bigotry. Look at all of these bans on same sex marriage.

Just look at how many seats the republican party won last election, shocking when most republicans in office are not fit to lead.

Personally I think a society run by a council of educated and progressive leaders is the best. These will be highly educated people with progressive ideals and beliefs. They will be elected by the people, and the only people who can vote are those who pass a poll test to determine if they are educated and progressive. Backwards ignorant people should not be allowed to vote.

Note, I don't all tea party people are bad, I am sure most are good people. They are just ignorant, and their voting reflects that.

1984 was a novel, not an instruction manual.

I think we should just find a supreme leader that's been anointed by the right hand of god.

NO. However there are many living here in western democracies who don't really know what democracy gives them. Too many confuse capitalism with democracy. Just go to modern China and you will see a society devoid of democratic freedoms but a capitalists wet dream. Too many here in the west equate the ability to get rich and live a good life with democracy. Those opportunities and more are available in China right now, there are hundreds of millions there who don't care one bit that they do not have any democratic freedoms because they have money and a good life.

Benevolent dictatorships are said to work best. But I hold that government candidates should have to pass a competency test and then be chosen by lot with time off for good behaviour.

I'd prefer a benevolent dictator, but democracy, despite its shortcomings, is probably the best bet.

You're right, we should only allow people to vote for the CORRECT party. The party of the educated and progressive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P36x8rTb3jI

democracy inevitably reduced to the 51% voting to steal from the 49% is unfortunately the best form of government we have
